Well it wasn't the valves. I recorded the sound. If anything it sounds like its coming from the gear area. Definitely not on the engine itself

Ok so I feel pretty dumb at the moment.... If this is the problem I hope it didn't cause damage. There was almost no gear oil that drained out when I opened the drain. Ugh.

So a little update. I just got back from riding around for almost an hour. Acceleration was perfect, top speed was between 70-75, ran smooth as silk..... And the noise was gone when I was driving. The noise is only apparent while idle. I even ducked my head down under my windshield so I could hear the engine purring clearly and no noises out of the ordinary. As soon as I came to almost a complete stop, I hear the noise again...... Que?

Might want to take off the Variator and take a look it almost sounds like the Dust shield is loose and clattering around.

Had no clue Any particular method of removing this and making sure the belt is tightened properly once put back on?

Preferred method for taking off variator is use of Impact wrench. Some of the guys have an electric impact wrench. I use an Air Impact wrench. Some have used breaker bar to get it off but you have to be very careful holding the variator from turning while loosening the nut. It has resulted in many broken variator fan fins. I have broken a few my self and had to replace the fan. There are a couple of good Videos that show how this can be done I will try and look some up tonight and get posted if someone does not beat me to it.

Sounds like your variator is making the noise, worn weights and or guides will cause the rattling and usualy after moving you won't hear them only at Idle or low rpms. This is a Gy6 motor but the cvts are all the same some have back plates on the Variator those are just because they put grease in with the rollers and the plate is to keep the grease from flying out. Thanks for the video! If that impact wrench is only $20, no reason to risk breaking the fan. Sounds like a good investment. I'll try that this weekend and see if that doesn't get rid of this pesky noise that haunts my dreams.

Its good for you to know how to take it apart anyway just for doing maintenance on it. Belt replacement and changing out rollers/sliders.
