Last year as some of you know I was having stalling issues, now it seems to be happening again just finished with the cvt area and had some idle problems, adjustment is all I need, it seem to start bucking like its shutting off as soon as the rad fan kicks on, when its cold or cool out the scoot runs great. I'm thinking I have either a bad ignition coil or cdi, When the scoot gets hot enogh to run the fan it starts. I have a volt meter, can I test it to see which one is bad Attachments:

Richard there is not a real test available on the CDI unless you have a occilliscope. The coils, some swear by ohm measurements but I've seen coils wirk fine and read nothing on either side?
I've seen this happen to either of them but let me ask you a question? Does it act like it's going to die or quit? Most of the time if a CDI heats up and starts acting silly it just cuts completely out and the scooter quits until it cools off.
Ive seen the coils do what you're talking about and a bad connection do this when it warms up too.
Specs on the coil are as follows;
Primary coil resistance: 3.6 4.8 W (20C)
Secondary coil resistance: 10.7 14.5 kW (20C)
I'm not one to just start the old throwing parts at something but in this case with no real way to test them I would say coil first if you find nothing else.
They're cheap and if that doesn't do it then you'll have a spare.

if you are going to test the coil run it until it starts acting up pull over and test as quick as possible so it is at the temp when it happens and test it cold that will give you a better idea of what is going on

JR, when this happens its inter minted, scappydogscooters.com has a ignition coil in its common section, says it fits most Chinese scooters, would that be ok?

Richard if you have the 257cc version Scrappy does not sell the correct coil. We ordered one and it was the wrong size. Not sure about his coil for the Moto 244cc.

Richard, when my coil went bad it was driving great then just died. I had to wait a good 10 minutes to get back running. I never had a fan issue during the 3 times it crapped out, the scooter just lost power and died. I replaced the coil and haven't had a problem with it again. I can tell you this for certainty the fan and headlights run on the same circuit from the R/R.

Well it could be he has a DC CDI and gets fed 12v from the battery and when the FAN comes on and the lights are on it is drawing a lot of juice and not enough for the COIL to fire the plug. A picture of the CDI would help and also check to see if a WIRE from the battery is going to the CDI. Alleyoop
