Now that we have a fully operational bike, brakes OK, cooling OK engine running smoothly, and purge control device repaired and non leaking. Bike is BMS 250 cc Macho Man touring, radio, luggage box, clean, very low miles, 2006, (2) helmets and gas can. This was $2100 new.
BMS is out of business, but there are sources for some parts, as I have found attempting to fix all this.
If I were to put this up for sale, what would one ask for it?? Anybody have any ideas. Location, Tampa, FL area.

You can ask anything you want. Play this game. what would you do if someone offered you say - $1000. Say yes or no. If you say no. then ask , what if some one offered you $1500? When you find the spot where you say somethng like - I would thing hard before I said no. You are close to an asking price. May add a couple of hundred to that and put it on Craigs list. Main thing is to get some good digital pictures - several. Put 3 or 4 on the listing. When you get an inquirey be prepared to Email lots of good picts including close ups of any defects. That give the guy a chance to know what he is going to see before he comes to look at it. Test rides are a problem.
I simply say, no test rides till it is paid for. Pay for it - in full, I give you the title - signed. Get on it then and test ride away. YOu got 15 minutes to get 100% refund as long as you do not breakit or damage it. Do either and it is yours. Period. NO tags. You are on your own.
Good luck. lefty

if i was selling ur scoot i would decide how much i want for it lets pretend $1000 so u ask $1500 let the person haggle u down
that way he thinks he's getting a deal & is a good haggler but u know u got what u wanted.
PLUS u need to do some homework. ;D u NEED to find out the going prices in ur area. here gee, people are trying to sell '06 49cc's for $1500 and up USED with lots of miles. but where u r , might find the going price for a 49cc is $600 see the difference ?

All very good suggestions. You put a lot of work into her to get it in good shape and that's worth something too, question is how much. Like it was she was a parts scooter but now she can if properly taken care of run for who knows how long. I'm going with Terrilee start at the $1500 range and if someone says $1000 then pretend they are taking food out of your mouth and sell! Got to remember two things, she is a 06 and one can still buy a new 07 or 08 for around $1500 delivered. Also the old saying does apply, "it's only worth what someone will pay" JR

i just sold (needed a bigger bike) my 2007 Roketa Bali-250 for $1000. i hoped to get more but after doing more research i realized that a new 2011 model would only run about 2200 or so.

Keep in mind all the aggravation you must go through when buying a new scooter on line. The PDI is a killer and worth plenty to my way of thinking.

Craig's list is a poor way to to find out what things sell for. I rarely pay what is asked. It costs nothing to list on Craig's list. Most of the Lister's are dreaming. They "hope". It really does not matter what the listing is. I always so my research elsewhere. Sure , I sometimes do not get what I want, but almost always, I find a better item in a short time. So the bottom line. You are selling used stuff. It does not matter what you have in it. What matters is what else it out there and what does it sell for. You have a good running scoot the looks good. Get good digital pictures. Emphasize the good stuff. Point out the obvious faults and decide your price. Be nice and smile a lot and friendly.
Offer to let the guy start it himself. Have it blocked so it can't be driven off. NO, they cannot ride it till it is bought. I never let anyone ride a scoot bigger than a 50cc. NO tags, no insurance. If they pay for it, is theirs to do as they will. Once paid for and I give them the title, they can ride off. If they do not like it, bring it back just as they bought it and I give them their money back. Break it/ Damage it and it is theirs.
Takes a little patience and a lot of smiles and nods. Not all of us are salesmen. I am not particularly good at it myself so I have had to work a bit. But I am happy to be honest.
