I have jus bought a bms tbx 260efi. And have read about three different things on gear oil. The one that baffles me most the manufacture suggest 10w-40 motor oil for gear oil. Is this safe? Tha manual only tells me how to change it. No quantity and no spec on what oil. I'm confused as this is my first scoot. Some one please help!!

I have been searching the Internet about gear oil and I'm finding all kinds of suggestions. The manual for the Yamaha 250 says to use 10w-40 motor oil for gear oil. Is anyone else out there just as baffled by this as I am? What should I do?
