WOW!! $140.00 bucks for a scoot battery, they are ripping you off my friend. I would tell them no do not put a battery in tell them you already have a new one and you will put it in if needed. Just tell them to fix whatever your haveing fixed and go and pick it up. Alleyoop I would but that would mean getting a trailer and taking it home BEFORE I hear it run and check out the work they supposedly did (carb related). Now you see why I'm just taking a new battery when I go, and I won't leave until I can ride it away. Yes! $140.00 for a cheap 9amp battery... Did you not read the first line of my OP???

Well I don't think anybody has put in a 2 inch taller battery that I remember on here. But just to make sure it will not hit the bottom of the seat. Geat 2 pieces of thin wood and cut them the same size as the battery is tall. Then tape them to the inside of the battery compartment and close the seat then open the seat if they are broke then you know the battery will not fit. Alleyoop I would love to do just that... Alas, my scooter is some 40 odd miles away at the scooter shop which is attempting to charge me $140 for an SLA battery from a company unfamiliar to me. I was hoping someone here had experience with this mod, since battery and charging system are often problematic on these bikes. I don't suppose I could talk someone into measuring for me? LOL j/k Thanks for the help. I guess I'll just cross my fingers and proceed.

I'm terribly sorry, because I neglected to mention that I know fair well the battery cover will need to be modded. I plan on cutting a hole for the battery to come through the top of the battery cover. I've seen this done elsewhere. What I should've asked was if it would STILL be too tall... I don't want the battery to hit the bottom of the seat when I close it.

No offense meant whatsoever, but if you put Pirelli SL 26's (J speed rated-62mph) on a bike that is capable of 70+mph...you're just a little bit "motarded". LOL Cheesy, I know, but sometimes I can't help myself. I love MJ... Mmm'kay? where does the pirelli sl26 in 130/60L-13 say it is a "J" rated tire? LOL... Well I know better now, since someone from another forum pointed that out to me. I looked on Pirelli's website, and couldn't find the speed or load rating listed anywhere in their specs sheet. So, I Google'd "pirelli sl26 speed rating" and everywhere I looked had it listed as "J" rated. I was in a "slightly altered state of mind" with South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut playing in the background, and it didn't occur to me that the speed/load rating might be size dependent. I blame Pirelli for not listing it definitively. I apologize if you felt my comment was disrespectful... It was just an attempt at humor, and not a very good one to be honest. But I do love a good pun, and I was making fun of the existence of the word motard. I can't believe that is a real word. ;D

Sounds like a plan, by the way what is the speed rating on those? Alleyoop They are a bias 4-ply tire and have a "P" speed rating (94mph).

Thanks to everyone for the input. Let me tell you what I found out after a little further research... Shinko is Yokohama (a well respected Japanese company with a reputation for high quality, high performance tires). Or rather, Shinko WAS Yokohama until 1998 when the Shinko Group bought their scooter/motorcycle tire technology. Shinko is still a Japanese headquartered company, just not quite as well known in the States as Yokohama (name-wise). Now, the best set of (car) tires I have EVER owned were Yokohama Avid H4S's. I refer to them as my "miracle tires", and still remember them quite fondly. They were installed on my tuned-up, tricked-out 1996 Nissan Altima and I put almost 50k on them before I was hit by an 18-wheeler while traveling north on I-75. The car was totaled, and I came within inches of dying a horrible death. However, I firmly believe the tires were a factor in my still being alive, because they didn't fold up on impact (at between 80-85mph), or when I was spinning across multiple lanes of traffic. They wanted to stick to the road like Gorilla Glue!!! And they did grip well enough for me to steer out of the way of what would've been a head-on collision with a third vehicle. When the whole ordeal was over, all 4 tires were still holding air (although obviously not safe for further applications...LOL). I also measured close to half of their original tread depth still intact! I know I'm not likely to have that kind of luck EVER AGAIN in my lifetime (I burned up several of my 9 lives that day...), and especially not on 2 wheels. I also understand that I'm probably being overly sentimental about a set of tires, but if Shinko's perform anywhere near as well as my Yoke's did, I feel I'd be stupid not to give them a shot. Plus, at $83 (shipped) for 2 size 140/60/13's, I could almost buy 2 sets for the price of 1.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of Shinko SR568R's... Less than $100 for 2 highly reviewed tires seems like an excellent fit for my budget.
Anyone have experience with Shinko tires?
I'm also curious if anyone has experience with fitting the YY250T with 140/60/13's. It's only a 10mm increase, and I would expect better traction from wider tires... I just need to know that they will fit before I order them. Time to drag out a measuring device and make sure, I guess.
I'm off to cut the grass, but if anyone else has any words of wisdom I'd be grateful to hear from them. I won't place an order until later this evening, or possibly tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hello everybody. I had a rough night last night. I was riding my YY250T when my rear tire picked up a screw and (to make a long story short): I am in need of new rubber. I knew I'd have to replace them soon, but I had hoped to get a bit more mileage from the OEM tires... Oh well. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had any tire recommendations. I am 185 pounds, and the tire size is 130/60/13. I'd like to replace both, and keep the total price below $150. I'm only finding J speed ratings, which is only rated for 62MPH. Any ideas or experience you can share? TIA

The CfMoto engine is fairly tolerant of tight valve settings. This can make it difficult to set a good idle speed even when the engine seems to run good. After checking for leaks at the intake manifold like kz said, I would adjust the valves before going any further. Both my valve adjusters moved 2 notches for the best adjustment. This also improved starting and idling. Okay. I was hoping I could just adjust the idle on the carb (because it sounds easier). I don't really know why...but I had it in my head that I shouldn't adjust the valves before I'd put on 200-300 miles and since the scoot only has 100 or so, I guess I thought I'd be "upsetting the break-in process". I get a bit silly sometimes. The headlight problem could be a bad bulb, but I think it's either a bad connection or the bulb was improperly installed to start with. You're probably right on that one. too. I'm leaning toward a bad or improperly seated bulb. I checked, and if I reach under the front and swap the headlight plugs, the right side works on either plug, but the left...not so much. The thing that bothers me is that I just finished putting the scoot back together again yesterday, and now I'm taking her apart again. It's kinda' exhausting. Hahaha. I guess I'll go get started.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. My main question was regarding a good illustration or picture I could go by, and whether or not the "Help_Carb_Tuning_Illustrated.pdf" (located in the tech files section) would be a good enough one to use? TIA

That IS pretty interesting... ;D
I'm currently working on an idle adjustment/carb issue, but I plan to replace my headlamps as soon as time and money allow. Especially since the left side headlamp doesn't work on hi OR low beam.
Just out of curiosity, which kit did you choose? damin69 posted an eBay link to the kit he got, but it's now too old to be of use.

Hello all. My scoot seems to be possessed. I can tune the throttle (cable) adjustment to the right RPMs and then the next time I start the bike, it needs re-adjusted because it's either much too high, or way too low (usually too low, but not always). I haven't tried tinkering with the carb just yet, because I wanted to check to see if that was the most sensible course of action. I have a Jonway YY250T with the CFMOTO motor, and I'm assuming that the "Carb Tuning Illustrated" PDF in the tech library will be close enough for me to follow if all I'm doing is turning the Idle Mixture Adjustment Screw. She barely has 100 miles on her. So I don't want to go adjusting the valves just yet, do I? It runs great when the throttle is tuned just right...nice and smooth, but having to adjust it so often just isn't practical. Haha... As soon as I correct this problem, I have to figure out why my left headlight NEVER comes on (Hi or Low beam). Any advice, or words of wisdom?
