I am resurecting a 2005 Roketa 250cc (linhai 257cc clone motor) water cooled scooter. In replacing fluids no coolant flowing so I remove the water pump front half and see the impeller is spinning freely - so order new pump. when removing the inner half go water pump all of the crankcase oil drain though a whole in what appears to be a bearing on the shaft. I had motor running - no mixing of oil and water anywhere. Is it normal for oil to drain when water pump is completely removed. Am i safe replacing WP and then refilling oil and cooling system. Not sure if what i am experiencing is normal or not. TIA John Read more: scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/13093/2005-roketa-250cc-water-replacement#ixzz4KRlo8av7

New to forum. I have had several scoots in the 2005-6 time frame and then got out of them; they were Vespa ET4 (sold), Yamaha Vino 125 (stolen), 2 Yamaha Vino 50cc (1 stolen other sold). Recently my son wanted one to get back and forth to college. We were able to find a Chinese Tao Tao 50cc brand new for $500. woman had taken delivery unassembled and her "mechanic" screwed it up. I was able to fix it and he is riding away, starting at 0 miles. I like to tinker with cars and such and this brought me to look at scoots again. Found a broken one on craigslist 2012 50cc Tao Tao "Speedy 50" and bought it for $250. Did a full PDI, Cleaned carb, changed fluids and new battery along with rear brake handle and it ran perfectly. Sold it last weekend for $480. Not a bad profit.
Next found a 2005 Roketa MC-54 250B not running for $350. Bought it last Friday, cleaned the carb, changed the fluids and installed new battery its running. In the process of full PDI. Needs new rear brake (master cylinder blown), valve adjustment, fixed fuel sender (float was stuck), new rear tail light, cooling system flush and refill, new temp gauge sender, jumped the fan so it works. Been ordering a few parts and it looks like I'll have this thing up and running for about 350 in addition to purchase price. So i'll be in it for around $700 - is that too much for a 2005 with 5400 miles? I'm going to ride it a bit and maybe sell it and do another.
Anyway, very glad to have found this site. I'm in school again LOL
