OK I have the manual tucked away in here somewhere again. Don't worry, my wife will find it. she can find most anything!!!Hoping to work on the scoot this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. At least now I have some info to work with. Oh,the shop that I had work on it before, The "mechanic" ,Didn't even know how to start it. He didn't know that you have to pull a brake lever to start it. It used to crank without the handle being pulled, but not any more.

GREAT!! Yes it is amazing that most shops do not have good mechanics, but one that does not even know to squeeze the brake handle is really bad. But like most shops they do not know how to diagnose they just start by replaceing parts and hope one fixes the problem. It is very hard to find a good mechanic even for cars. Alleyoop

Well... I've been working on my p.o.s. all afternoon. I actually got it to start with the starter once, but it wouldn't rev up and died and won't restart.I have 80% of the plastic off so I can see what I'm doing. The strange part is that my bike has more wires in 2 places than the wiring diagram shows. I bought a new multi meter, mine quit working, but I don't seem to know how to use it. The bike has spark, but it seems weak. I can barely see it even with my glasses on.Whenit started but wouldn't rev up today it was running like it did with the kickstand down previously.then died.I'm getting frustrated

OK here's the latest.. went back out and tried to start it elec. ..nothing. so for the first time today I kicked it. vroom, first kick it was running. I let it run for a while as I checked some things, and found that disconnecting the side stand switch by unplugging it has no effect on it whatsoever. but if you plug it in and put the sidestand down it continues to run,but poorly. The kill switch on the handlebar must break the circuit when activated cause it kills it when you unplug it. Gotta go 4 now, more thoughts later....

OK I think I've got it! I know you said you have the S1 History but by what you just said it appears you either have the S2 scooter or it's wired like it! Reason is if you go look at the S1 History wiring diagram it has no kill switch on the handle bar and the S2 does!
So now that you have the plastic off can you tell me the wire colors of the side stand kill switch? If I'm right they will be green and black/white.
Also the engine kill switch on the handle bars should be red and black. So if this is true then yes if you pull a wire on the engine kill switch or turn it to the off position your are cutting off the 12Vdc ot the CDI! Remember this is a DC powered CDI scooter.
Also I can tell you why it won't start with the electric and why it runs poorly when the kick stand is down even after you kick start it.
The wires going to it are green = ground and black/white = CDI kill wire. So as I've said before this swith is bad or partially closing when you put the kick stand down.......but not enough to kill the scooter! This switch works by simply grounding out the CDI when it is down!
You mentioned a weak spark when trying to start it electrically, reason is simple this switch is paritally grounding out the scooter and at times it isn't.
Simply unhook the side stand switch to do this test. Unhook the green wire and see if it will start electrically and with the kick starter.
Then see how it runs. Then let us know.

after
i started it by kicking and it ran for several minutes it would start electrically, but i noticed it still wanted to fire only when start switch was being released or when first touched.
When I got it running by kicking it,it would start electrically, but I noticed that it still only wanted to fire as the starter switch is being released or when first touched. Seems you could sit there and grind away and it wouldn't fire until the instant it is released. Seems like I remember a similar situation with old Chrysler products that had a bad resistor block that acted that way,or they would fire as the starter was running but quit when you released it? If I ever get this thing fixed I think I'll PAWN it and never look back!! Any idea what a cdi box costs for a daelim? if one can be bought?

Finding a CDI shouldn't be a big deal and there could be several reasons for the starting as you realease the button, even a bad connection.
Here's the thing it doesn't matter which one of these scooters it is because when looking at either one of these wiring diagrams the side stand switch can cause this problem by the simple fact it's not working correctly.
We know this simply by the fact that if the side stand is down the scooter is not supposed to run period.
On one scooter the switch breaks the circuit that feeds voltage to the CDI, on the other the switch closes and grounds out the CDI but we can test either way so do this:
(1) find the switch and jump the wires together and you can take your volt meter and go to the CDI and test for 12Vdc on the black/blue wire, if so then try to start the scooter with the start button.
(2) If the scooter will not start at all then unhook both of the switch wires and try again.
I believe at this point the problem is just this side stand switch.

I just got off the phone with alleyoop. He says you r the elec. guru.I also just read the above reply by you.I have been working on it for a few hours today, and at this point the sidestand switch is malfunctioning enough so it doesn't affect the scooter's running at all.It will start with it down or up and will continue running if you put it down without affecting the engine at all. So I unplugged it. Something new also that I noticed today, is that the 3 yellow wires that come from the stator and go to the rec/regulator heat up more n more as it runs. any thoughts on this. After a few minutes of running they were the consistency of cooked spaghetti and quite warm to the touch. The scoot still doesn't want to start electrically.and when it does fire it is just as I let off the starter switch.not during the cranking.Something is still wrong. Could you send me your phone # so we could talk, I'm not much of a typist! thanks Larry

SO what have you done or not done. This should be something simple since it starts with the kickstarter. Alleyoop
