so during yesterdays ride in the morning , plenty of power and top end (yes this is the scooter with 14g sliders and larger variator) then toward the end of the day I noticed I lost top rpm's and speed and acceleration power . In the morning I did feel some shuddering I just figured it was the more aggressive sliders and variator . It was present only when getting off the line . I was thinking could my clutch be slipping (thinking should rps go way up ) i had this with my harley will cvt act differently ? Now I'm thinking could it be in need of a valve adjustment . starved for air = lack of power ? John

Could be anyone of them Johm? But since you just did the variator upgrade I would start there first. Did you put on a new belt? What about cleaning and servicing the clutch?
As always the process of finding a solution is starting with known possible problems on this matter and eliminating the possibilites one at a time. If it's been some time since a valve adjustment for sure even if it's not the problem it won't cause any harm and eliminates a thing off of the list of possibilities.

lightly lube the shaft inside the clutch and also lightly lube the variator pin with bearing grease. Grab the clutch plate and squeeze and check for smooth operation.
also, you could have a carb issue, some bikes have snorkels on the air boxes that ram air at higher speeds and in cooler temps, have a tendancy to cause the bike to lean out. If your snorkel is forward facing, then try making a quick cardboard deflector for testing purposes and try again.

Well I messed up I pulled the clutch and variator and went for a ride. It fixed the shuddering , I should have done the valves first. I should have picked up on the valves sooner . I have to give it some gas to get it started and my idle is all over the place . On the quick ride it is still at a loss for top rpms and speed .

Yea if the rpms are bounceing at idle you are running very LEAN, you either have a bad air leak, valves need adjusting or you pilot jet is clogged and or pilot jet passage. Alleyoop

well I adjusted the exaust valve it was tight . It starts better and the idle seems more stable . I went for a quick ride , not enough space to wind it out . I will try soon.

So its running better, BUT is the IDLE still bounceing if so turn the FUEL RATIO MIXTURE SCREW COUNTER CLOCKWISE do 1/4 turns at a time wait a few seconds and see if the IDLE settles down if not turn it another 1/4 turn. In colder weather it needs more fuel. Alleyoop

Al , the idle dropped to like 1450 , Al it is the carb the scooter came with . I think I will install the Keihin with a pod , with a new fuel filter .
