I have a 2008 roketa scooter mc54b, ongoing problems with stalling, can a bad coil have intermiten spark, cause stalling or shutting off scooter? Attachments:

Hi Richard I will share my tried and true method for diagnosing problems: If it won't start, make a list of everything involved with starting the motor. Now eliminate the obvious things like starter motor, etc. Pick the least expensive of the parts left on the list and replace it. Keep doing this until it starts to your liking. We came dum, we go lernt! Ernie

Thats a great idea, I'm thinking I got a bad coil, I could first of all check to see if a have a good spark, if not take off coil and make sure its tight, and if I have to buy something I could start there. (Thanks Ernie)

Yes Richard a bad coil can do that but so can a bad connection in that department of the coil and CDI too. I always advise to check all of the simple no coast thngs out first. I just hate to see people spending their hard earned money at throwing parts at a scooter and then find it was just a bad or poorly connected wire.
Check to see if you have a good steady blue spark and holler back at us.

Yes it seems to have a good blue steady spark, I check coil wire going into spark plug cap, it was loose, so I tighten it, and the other end connections were also loose so I crimped them tight. now for the test ride. I didn't check the CDI yet. I did notice after starting it as it warmed up, my rpms went real low, below 1,000. then after awhile it came back up slowly.

Just test drive my scooter, at WOT about 60-65 if let off throttle because of a turn, it hesitates, then shuts off, or sometimes in the WOT it starts jerking forward and then shuts off. Before this happens I can feel the fuel pump working harder or carb, I can't tell.

Sure sounds like a fuel delivery problem, it may be the float in the bowl is set to high and shutting off the fuel to early and not filling the bowl up enough and on turns or any movement that would cause the fuel in the bowl to shift will expose the jets and no fuel is going to the motor. Or the fuel pump is weak and not pushing enough gas fast enough but that would not explain the hesitation on turns or sudden slow downs. Alleyoop Here is something to help adjust the Float Level:

Richard it could be fuel like Alley has suggested but it also sounds like loss of power to the CDI coming and going? Does it shut off instantly or sometimes shuts off and comes right back on after a second?
Remember this is a DC powered CDI and it gets power from the ignition black wire. There is a plug where the ignition key plugs up to and of course two plugs on the CDI. That key switch plug has been know to corrode or get loose, same with the plugs on the CDI. If the CDI loses power even for a second the scooter will jump or die?
I had the plug on the CDI and the key switch plug mess up and could be hauling butt going down the road and do exactly what you mentioned. The key switch plug on the black wire was corroded, I didn't get it properly greased when I did the PDI and it came back to bite me.

Thanks Alley, I'll check that out, Jr, where is the key switch plug, have any pictures? also I pulled the boot off coil, unpluged connections, on the left the base is black on right green, the wires one is black and yellow the othe orange and white I think, I found the yellow and white on the black based on, is that correct? I was going to switch them, but I didn't know if that would hurt the scoot.

The ignition key switch plugin is behing the headlight front cowling. It's a take it off operation to get to it. I don't if the coil wires are electrically positive to negative sensative or not? But the wires I mentioned as in the black is to the CDI. It supplies power to the CDI. If it is interrupted then the spark is also as the CDI feeds voltage to the coil.

I have a Roketa MC-62 (2008) and the main hot wire from the battery to the ignition switch was a little corroded on the battery side of the ingition connector and the wire going to the ignition switch was blackish for about 2-inchs. I bypassed the connector and soldered the wire. I bought an new CDI and coil before I found the problem was in my wireing. Just trying to shed some additional light.

Update on my mc54b roketa scooter, took off carb today, the first thing I notice was it was missing a screw on my float bowl, adjusted float, adjusted the a/f mix screw 2 1/2 turns out, of course cleaned carb, put it all back together, adjust idle screw. Done just in time to take scoot to work, got up to 65mph no trouble, even did great in the hills Thanks JR Alley and rp.
