OK guys and gals it's nice and pretty now perfect fall weather and I know all of you are anxious for the winter forecast. With all the recent storms hitting the east and it so pretty here I just didn't give it much thought until today when I was doing one more mowing of the grass and some nice big ripe persimmons were on the ground by one of my several trees and IT HIT ME! I haven't gave out the winter forecast yet. Now unlike all of these so-called weather people and unlike these fake groundhogs who want to make you think they know something about forecasting the weather old JR's way is true, scientific and correct. Now before I give you the test results I do want you to know though I'm in good shape for the winter even though it was hot and dry this year I had a pretty good garden and have some late fall goodies growing right now! I dug my sweet potatoes yesterday, had better but got plenty for the family until next spring and right now I've got a big pot of turnip greens simmering along with a crock pot of speckled butter beans going. Tonights supper is turnip greens, butter beans, corn bread, baked sweet potatoes, pork chops and ice tea! Meal fit for a king! OK now that I got your mouth watering I'll let you in on the forecast and it's not good let me tell ya! Now in case you don't know about this true scientific way of forecasting the weather here is a little link from the farmer's almanac and this year's forecast results so far from people; .farmersalmanac.com/weather/2008/10/14/persimmon-seeds-cold-winter-predicted/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.farmersalmanac.com/weather/2008/10/14/persimmon-seeds-cold-winter-predicted/Now here's how old JR does it, I get 7 seeds just randomly pick them from 7 different persimmons because I want my test to very accurate AND since I have at least 25 of these trees I get them from 7 different trees. Now you can't get any better than that! LOL! I cut the seeds open one at a time and lay them together as the symbol appears, if after 6 seeds I have a tie I let the seventh seed decide the forecast. Sadly folks this year there wasn't even a thought of a tie nor was there even one FORK! 6 spoons and one knife! Now if you know what the spoon is and with 6 out of 7 appearing you don't even have to ask! GET THOSE SHOVELS OUT!!! SNOW Snow! It's coming so now don't take this lightly, get ready, stock up on batteries, groceries and make sure your shovels are in good order! well now at least you can say we have no excuse to not be prepared and oh BTW that Snow is for everyone else! LOl I might just order up a little come Christmas! LOL JR

We've already had four inches of snow this past Saturday. People are buying new snow throwers and shovels like they're free. I've got gas in the garage for my thrower and none of my two wheelers have seen the road in a couple of weeks.

Mother nature can be furious but, Never lies!!!!!!!!! I trust the seed prediction. Our local top dollar forecasters predicted a sunny calm day last week. We got windy rainy conditions I forget but, Was it the spoon that chased the fork in the nursery rhyme Stay safe this winter everyone!!!!! Ride if you can but, stay away from snow and ice.

Hey JR , Got any more seeds ? I would really like to start some trees on my property. I may not see them bare fruit but I would like to feed the wildlife even after I'm gone. Hummm, How about some PAW PAW seeds? Used to be some of those around here too but there gone also .

Paws paws are gone here too but I planted a couple that I ordered online at a good deal and they survived the hard summer. I'll watch for some seedlings this spring and send you some sprouts on the persimmons but you can get them online too.

Yep, the seeds are never wrong!. I knew it would be a harsh winter because of the el-nino-el nina factor. We are due for a rough one. But the one good thing about a cold winter is that the frost line goes down as far as 12 to 18 inches in the soil, killing a lot of insects including fleas. Makes for a more bugless summer!
