OMG! What I just did? By jalat (Read 1,013 times)

I'm not sure what I just did. Is this wise or not?
But I kind of got opportunity to make one of my long time dreams come true.

I just bought motorcycle.... Very old motorcycle. 31 years old
That means I am selling my Jonway which ends one kind of era for me. I had it only 6 months and 3000km. I put really much effort for that scooter. Somebody gonna get really good one from me. Hid lights, led bulbs, coolant changed, oils changed, new belt, new rollers + dr.pulleys, new variator and clutch, higher givi screen, 12V outlet, gammatronix + digital volt meter, better regulator and grip heaters ;D
The condition is so good that you only need to show your finger to start button and it starts.

Well.. I might be sorry after I sell it, but here in Finland the insurances are way too high that one can have more than one motorcycle. And at the moment I have three. One 50cc scooter is for my wife.

Back to that motorcycle. I have always dreamed that some day I will buy a motorcycle which is about same age than me. I have born 1979 and this motorcycle is 1980. Built in 1979 Those bikes are usually high price in here, but now it is autumn and prices are lower. I had really good oppornity to buy one in good condition and really cheap Price was about one fourth of what they usually cost. 70 years old man sold it to me. He felt too old to drive anymore. Told me to keep it good

Bike is Honda CX 500
- year model 1980
- 115 000km in odometer ~71 000 miles. (these models easily can reach 200 000 miles)
- water cooled
- cardan axle
- flying V2 engine (easy to maintain)
- double disc brakes at front
- dry weight 220kg
- 50 bhp

I fell in love at first sight.

And the first thing was to remove that windscreen and that grill thing behind


I already have plans to do some modifications. I will go trough all the wirings and make better connections. I put grip heaters and bar end mirrors like this.

And maybe something else too like little chromed part here and there. But not too much. I like the way it looks already.

I don't forget scooter riders. There is a little scooter rider always inside of me
Scooters are great. And like cruiser said. I still have one scooter.
This is just one step what I have to try because you have to live your dreams. And this is one of my long time dreams

Jalat! How did my old motorcycle make it to Finland! I bought one of these new once and rode the wheels off of it put them back on and rode her some more! I actually had the 500c which was the custom, candy apple red!

They made 3 versions of this motorcycle one of the first shaft driven cycles without a chain. The two cyclinder engine was a variant of the 4 cyclinder gold wing engine and built on the same principles. Extremely smooth, very quite and fast! When I finally had to sell her (which I regret) I had 101k on her and she still ran great!

In the US one in excellant condition can still bring $1500 and if I ever run across another red one that is in good shape I'm going to try to get it.

But just cause you're giving up the scooter is no reason to be a stranger heck one of these days I'm going to get all of the Honda and name brand scooters tech stuff in so you might just have a question about this one?

And funny to hear you say you regret that you sold it. I have read many many forum writings where people regret that they ever sold Honda CX. It is told to be one of the most reliable bikes ever made.

But as we all know. Every now and then we have feelings that have to get something new or different

Maybe I should check this forum also every now and then
