Was hoping I could get some help with this issue I'm having. Upgraded 8-pole stator to 11-pole and replaced 4-pin regulator rectifier with 7-pin. Created new harness for three yellow wires coming off stator to 3-pin yellow connector on R/R. Everything worked well for about six months but noticed some issues with headlights dimming when I revved and battery was not recharging. Was planning to test and replace stator and/or R/R this spring.
Before I could get to that, the right-hand switch cluster (starter button, kill switch, and throttle) twisted of the handlebar and broke. Was still able to start and run but eventually couldn't. Couple of weeks ago took the thing apart and saw that wires were shorting inside switch, probably due to getting twisted around handlebar. Separated wires and re-insulated, and thought it was fixed.
Reassembled everything today but bike wouldn't start when I plugged everything together using the new 11-pole configuration. But when I unplugged the new 3-phase harness and hooked everything up using the old 8-pole configuration, it started and ran.
I'm almost certain I can't bypass the 3 yellow wires as they deliver AC power from the stator to the R/R, the lights, and the battery charging system. But I don't understand how something that used to work - the yellow wires from stator to R/R - would now be keeping the bike from starting.
Has anyone had this problem where the 11-pole setup keeps the scooter from starting but the 8-pole setup works?
Also, I threw out the original 8-pole stator and R/R. Should I just go back to the original 8-pole setup or is there a way to troubleshoot and figure out why the scooter won't start with the three yellow wires running from stator to R/R but starts fine with the old setup (one yellow, one white, one red, and one green for ground)?
Any tips, suggestions, or encouragement would be appreciated.
