i want to be able to go on a 200 mile one way trip, i wanted to get the cbr250 by Honda, which i know can do it no problem, my question is the cheaper 250cc i see that are like 1800 $, will they be any good for such shorts trips like that and be able to do at least 60 mph? and how a bout reliability too?

According to your subject title, it sounds like you are interested in an inexpensive 250cc motorcycle. Any properly prepared 250 whether it's a scooter or a motorcycle will do what you are asking. Reliability for Chinese scoots or motorcycles is, in large part, a function of proper maintenance and a good PDI. There is a good selection of Chinese motorcycles out there which will outperform Chinese scooters in general. THIS model is particularly interesting for $1699 delivered. I believe the acceleration claim of 0 to 102 mph in 8 seconds is a typo. 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) is most likely accurate. It would be similar to buying a drop shipped scoot - no dealer network, questionable reliability and quality, but a lot of performance and fun for the money for the person with the right mindset and ability to do their own maintenance. Scooter forums can provide a lot of support for scooter owners, no so much for motorcycle owners. Maybe there are some Chinese motorcycle forums out there? Here's a possibility: .chinariders.net/index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.chinariders.net/index.php

you mean you will go back to shifting?...remember,motorcycles works with shifting gears, pressure plates, shifting cables etc, the more parts there is,the more chances of stalling...i'd say get a quality 250 cc up scoot and your'e good to go.
my 250cc morph goes up(with passenger) in San diego mountains 4K feet elevation with no issues....not a hiccup.

My 54B 250 will go 80 miles per hour at wide open throttle on the level highway. I tried it once (briefly). I was very uncomfortable on the interstate. I go every where on my scoot. It can handle a trip all the way from Ohio to Florida if I wanted to. If I did that, I would use my GPS and take regular roads. I will not go on the interstate or highway. I am comfortable with speeds up to 55 mph. After that, it is me, not my bike, who can't take the high speeds.

All depends on what you're looking for as far as what you like to ride and comfort. Myself with bad legs and knees it's a scooter, the day will come for me to use a trike. They are correct I have made a round trip to Dallas to see my kids on 4 occasions now once in 100F+ heat never failed me never left me stranded on my Chinese 250B.
The word PDI is crucial on anything Chinese with a proper PDI I would ride one any where.

All very valuable opinions but let me toss in my two cents. If you want to travel any distance and need to use the interstates a motorcycle is the way to go. I've become a Craigslist hound and the variety of bikes available for less than an online 150cc China scoot is astounding. I just bought this for $225 and got it running with nothing more than an oil change and a carburetor cleaning. As far as what a 250 bike will do, my wife took her 250 Rebel on a 210 mile trip last summer with only mild discomfort. She never rode that far in one sitting and experienced the same aches all people do after their first long ride. I own a 250 scooter and yes, it's great on nice state roads and local highways, but a bike has better speed, and stability from its bigger wheels. This is important when an 18 wheeler blows by about 20 mph faster than you're going.

I'll agree with KZ on all points especially if you are traveling this kind of distance on a frequent basis.
But if you're just taking your time and taking the back roads where 55MPH is the limit then I'll take my scooter every time, I'm not a good rider on either of them as far as having to have a stop break and stretching a spell. The old legs hurt on either one of them, but if I was riding the interstate I'd rather be on a motorcycle myself.
