I have a scooter in the shop for an engine rebuild and ran into something new 'to me' on disassembly. I've serviced 100s of scooters over the years but don't remember ever seeing one with a additional pickup coil on the clutch bell. This appears to be OEM because the cover was machined to mount it. The wire plugs into the main harness right beside where the normal pickup wire is.. I'm planning to install a performance clutch with this build but need determine what this is controlling hopefully without tearing into it tracing wires... Engine is a QMB1P39

Something just occurred to me,,,does the scooter have a speedometer drive cable coming off the front wheel?,,, if not it may be an electronic speed sensor,,,since its coming off of the final drive

That is all that I could think of also but it does have a cable speedo

Can't be a tach because it's not running at engine speed,,,if it's a 50cc it may be a speed limiter interrupting the cdi to keep speeds down below 30mph ,,,,that's what I'm betting on

I finally got some time to trace this out.. It is wired directly to one of the ground terminals of the CDI

It's a top speed limiter
