So a while back I went down , sprained my ankle it seems to be taking forever to get back to 100% . With the hurricane coming last week I had to move the scooter from the driveway to the back of the house . I just haven't had the drive to look into fixing my handle bars that are out of whack . It funny a few days before the crash I had bought sliders that I intended to put in . I also bought the tool to remove the starter clutch gear so I can change the oil pump . When I bought the engine rebuild rebuild kit it came with the new oil pump . I intended to replace the worn chinese belt with the gates power link . I noticed the edges of the belt seemed a bit worn and I was thinking it was causing high RPM . I got the tool for the variator , some guys say use an impact gun I have , some guys say not to . I understand there is a tork spec for the variater nut . so all of the plastic is cracked scratched or broken/missing . The light lenses are broken , well I did have fore sight I did get the scooter in silver . I figure a roll or two of duct tape should get me up and running .

Hey John..
It is great to use an impact to take the variator nut off... but don't use it to put it back on.
Here is what happens...
The variator shaft is tapered and the kickstarter gear sits behind it. When you use an impact wrench to drive on the variator nut it moves the kickstarter gear up the taper shaft to a point that you will never get the gear off again. Sometimes it will drive the gear so far up the shaft it cracks the aluminum case...
This also renders the kickstart useless, because the gears won't mesh and sets the variator back pulley out of line with the rear pulley so you get a lot of excessive belt wear...
Save yourself a ton of grief... use a regular wrench on the variator nut to put it on and torque it 25 ft lbs. Check the manuals because I have seen other torques numbers
