This is a weird one........I have never had any issues when starting my scoot but for a while now I've been hearing a sort of siren sound when I'm cranking her up. Once she starts it goes away.......any ideas what's causing that? Thanks......

Squealing or "siren sounds " are usually made by dry dry bushings or bearings,,,,

If it is the starting dragging how big a deal is it to replace? I would consider myself a mid level mechanic!

A tight space but easy to unbolt and replace.

It's the vertical engine I believe so it's in the front of the engine ,,,accessible if you drop the left side panel

OK..........I had a little time this weekend to take a look at another issue I think I'm having that maybe I caused. Recently I finally wired up my new Bestem trunk.........it's the one that has a string of LED lights and an additional brake light. Last Wednesday my wife and I went off on the scooter to catch an outdoor concert. It was about a 25 minute ride but when we went to leave about two hours later my battery didn't have enough juice to start the scoot. It wasn't completely dead but most likely my dragging starter didn't help! So I got my digital voltmeter and checked my battery with the scoot off...........12.85V DC. Then I started the scoot and checked it at various RPM's but even at 6000 RPM's the battery never registered more that 12.89V DC so I think that's an issue. Are my new lights drawing more that the alternator/regulator can muster or do I have a bigger problem?

Yes there is an issue ,,,, at any rpm above 2-3000 there should be 14+ volts,,, so either the regulator or the stator is suspect,,,,I would start by checking the battery acid levels and all terminations / connections including grounds,,,particularly the main battery to frame ground ,,,that's a start anyways

Thanks Cyborg! Will have to deal with that when get back from a ten day vacation in Napa Valley! So you don't think the new string of LED lights is causing this?

My YY250T, aka Roketa, had charging issues, couldn't keep up when everything was running. After trying many other things, the cure turned out to be a much more robust R/R from Oregon Motorcycle Parts. Charge readings popped right up where they should be, no further problems in that department. So no, I don't own any stock in OMP, but count me as a very satisfied customer despite the rather steep price (about $100 in my case). If after you've checked all your connections the problem persists, you might want to consider that.
