Hi guys ive got this 2008 Atomik raider 110 cc for my children and i had to rewire the quad so i bought a wiring harness for the quad and unsure where some wires go i dont have a clue at all please help me getting this started

OK I see you figured out the picture posting and it would be very helpful if you resized this photos larger.

Even though they will appear on the thread as a small picture if you follow the directions on resizing them when clicked on they will enlarge to the bigger size where one can view better detail.

I found a manual with a very good ATV wiring diagram that may help us, page 17:

If the harness you bought isn't plug and play then you may have to do some splicing to make it work.

Ok first picture appears to be the two wires going to the brake switch? Black = 12Vdc hot, yellow/green = 12Vdc out when the brake handle is pressed, of course with the key on. Do both brake handles have the identical wires? If so then we can start here.

no only on the right side the cable is coming from the break
# On the 2nd piture this is coming out from the 1xQuad cluster switch.
#On the 3rd picture this says (Break Wires Must Be Connected To Start) and is coming from wiring harness.

and the other sayng rear light but im not worried about rear light.

OK simply put you have a harness that has features you don't need. We're going to take it a step at a time to see if we can get this thing wired.

One I noticed that you have a battery with slip on spade terminals. If you take note the two large wires, (red & black) are battery cables and they have bolt on eyes on the end. You need to either make these wires to fit the battery or get a battery to fit the wires? I would suggest you get a good 7ah or larger motorcycle battery from Wal Mart and then bolt the red cable to the positive side and the black to the negative side.

Now here is where I need to know some more info? You'll notice a small red wire with a fuse on it also. This will need to be hooked up to the positive terminal of the battery also. Where does this wire end up at? On your first picture of the whole ATV it appears it is with other wires in a female plug? Do you have a key switch and a start button or a on/off switch and a start button? I need to know this. Also the wire plug you mentioned in picture number 4 your have in your fingers is the plug that goes to the starter solenoid/relay.

Also the black battery cable = ground has a small green wire which is a common colored wire that is used a the ground wire, we will use it in other places too.

We need to get the starting circuit going first then we can proceed to the engine ignition circuit.

OK the thin red wire with the fuse on it is connected up with the positive wire

and the thick red wire is going directly to the solenoid

The red thin wire with the fuse is going to a splice

after the splice it forks off to the regulator

and the other forks off to the ignition key barrell which is not yet connected at the moment

I have a key start with an on and off kill switch and electric start button

The wires in picture 4

are going into a splice which then connects to a plug

then goes to the solenoid but there are alot of splicing from that green/yellow-stripe which forks to this

and also to this

and also goes to the rear light plug.
there is alot of slicing from ground wires that are coming from different places
The thick black wire battery cable goes to the engine frame as you see

And the thin green wire that is joint with the thick black wire goes into a splice

with many other gorund wires

I hope this helps please if not maybe rewire completely step by step i dont know

Again got to take one circuit at a time. OK so I know you have a key switch so I need a picture of the plug on that key switch along with the colors of the wires on it. Then we will start putting the starting circuit together. I need to also know the colors of the wires on the start button. Lastly I'm sure your solenoid rely has a two wire pigtail on it and I need to know the color wires on it.

Hi again JR you are great doing it like this step by step etc it is the way to go and it makes it easier on me to know what you are asking for i can't thankyou enough........
So here is the picture of the plug on the key switch

And here is the colors of the wires on the key switch which are :
Black , Red , Green and Black/White strip

Also coming from the switch is another plug which is
Blue and Brown.

And the solenoid relay has a pig tail on it and the color of those 2 wires are:
Yellow/Red strip , Yellow/Green strip

Ok so lets start putting it together. Now on Reply Number 7 you have pictures of plugs of the wiring harness. On picture number 5 you are holding a female plug and from what I can see the colors are red, black, black/white and green (it's hard to see).

If this is the case then the male to the key switch you have in Reply #10 picture #1 plugs into this. That will now give us battery power to the key switch via the red wire. Now when you turn the key on 12Vdc will go from the red wire to the black wire, so REMEMBER with the key on the black wire in the harness will be hot. This is good because we will use black to put 12Vdc to other things. Also again you are going to need to hook the battery cables (big red and black) up to the battery. You need to make sure the small red wire has a good fuse in it.


Now here is where we have got to start getting the rest of the starting circuit together. You have wires that are of the right color but even with good pictures it's kind of hard to see where each plug goes where so here is what we are going to do.
Way back at Reply #3 picture #1 you show the pigtail of the brake switch colors = black and green/yellow.

Even if you have no matching plug to use we have got to hook the black wire on the brake switch up to a black wire that feeds off of the key switch. Remember that I told you that black off of the key switch will be hot with the key on? Now in Reply #3 picture #6 you have a black and a green/yellow wire on display. If these two wires are up in the brake switch area and will reach then we can use both of them. I'm sure the black wire is in the harness in different places and it should be spliced together, you can verify this by hooking up the battery and testing with a volt meter checking for 12Vdc with the key on or use a multi-meter and using the ohms function to check it.

Now I know the plugins don't match so you can either splice them or go to the auto parts and get some female bullet connectors and put on that the male bullet connectors from the brake switch will fit into.

Hook black on the brake switch to a black off of the key switch any black that will reach and will have 12Vdc on it with the key on.

Hook up the green/yellow from the brake switch to any green/yellow that goes back to reach the solenoid relay. Now in Reply #10 picture # 5 you show the female plug on the solenoid relay, the colors are yellow/green and yellow/red. I see some male plugs in the area that are the opposite color as in green/yellow (which is on the brake switch too) and red/yellow which we hope comes out on a plug up in the handlebar start switch area. If you have a male plug that indeed does have these matching colors just mentioned then plug it into the female plug to the solenoid.

If you don't then find those two color wires and lets take a plug apart and make this happen, watch this video:

Ok let's review

Plugging in the key switch should be plug and play very simple. hooking up the battery cables simple. (Do need a hot battery)

Hook up black wire off of brake switch to black wire off of key switch.
Hook up green/yellow wire on brake switch to green/yellow in harness that will come out at or reach the solenoid starter relay.

Hook up green/yellow coming from brake switch to yellow/green on solenoid relay pigtail
Hook up red/yellow to yellow/red on solenoid relay pigtail and make sure the red/yellow you use comes out near the start button on the handle bar.

Once you have completed this then we will get the red/yellow hooked up to the start button on the handle bar. We may need to take it apart to verify one thing.

just another quick question ok Can i extend the wires if needed with the same color code and using those bullet head connectors ? this is only if i have to ok ... will this be fine ? Ok sorry I'm little confused ...... When you mean HOOK UP for an example ( You said for me to hook up black wire off break switch to black wire off of key switch ) now does that mean splice into it OR take the black wire out of plug ( like the video I watched in the link you give me ) from key switch and connect both directly with bullet connectors ? Sry I hope I have not confused you now I just want to make sure

Yes it means you have to get the black wire on the brake switch hooked up to a black wire that comes off of the key switch. You can splice do whatever you need to do. I was giving you that video to use in case you wanted to use a plug and wanted to indeed change some wires on any plug to make the colors match up as I instructed. I have no doubt you are going to have some unused plugs left in this harness depended on what you want hooked up or not, say headlights?

So what you need to do is use a black wire on the harness that is reachable to the brake switch and make SURE it ties into the black coming off of the key switch. Like I said I have no doubt that black anywhere in the harness ties into the black off of the key switch. As I said if you have and know how to use a mult-meter you can confirm this.

For the things I told you to hook up use the easiest route to do so.
