I've been blowing light bulbs in my headlight. I think this started when my stator went bad, and I replaced it with a new one. Since the stator replacement the scooter runs good, but keeps blowing headlight bulbs. When I increase rpm's I can see the headlight get brighter, and as the engine reaches a race, the bulb glows a very bright blue white and quickly blows. I replaced the R/R with one off my wife's scoot, (shhhh...lol), and same thing again. I've made an attempt to use a volt/ohm meter on the headlight receptical, and I can't get a reading on AC voltage, but when I switch to DC voltage it shows about 6v at an idle, and when I race the engine it goes as high as 35v. I thought the headlight was AC, or? Did I wire my new stator in backwards? Is it even possible? This is a 2013 GY6 CY150e Tao Tao Roman with only an air intake/jet modification. Also have performance CDI, (new), and Coil, (also new). I PDI'd the scoot completely over the last year or so, and she was running great until the stator went, and it lost spark. I suspect the exciter coil went. I replaced the stator with an 8 pole stator much like the one that came out. The plug on the new stator wouldn't plug into my wiring harness though, but the wires were all color coded the same, so I spliced the wires together and soldered them, used heat shrink, and taped them well with electrical friction tape. Again...the only issue is blowing headlight bulbs. They are the 35w 12v H4 P43T type bulbs. Everything else runs on DC....taillight, turn singals, license plate illum., running light in headlight...etc. Any help would be highly appreciated!

Got to know what stator you put in? Could easily be you're not matching the correct R/R with the stator? There is the standard grounded stator and a floating ground stator. Match the wrong R/R and you've got problems. 35 volts is going to blow the headlight bulbs every time.
Not plugging in is a good indication you got the wrong R/R to the stator you have.

Thanks for your reply JR! I got the stator from ebay labeled as a "GY6 150cc 8 pole 5 wire stator". It didn't say anything about the type of ground. I have another 8 pole stator here that I got from a different seller so I would have an extra one for future adventures. The seller didn't mention the type of ground on this one either, but with some luck it might do the trick. I'll install the other stator today. The R/R from my wife's scooter looks a little different than the one that was originally on my scooter. My old R/R has heat fins on the front and sides. The one from her scooter only has the fins on the front. Both the stator in my scooter right now, and the new extra one I have, feature the smaller 4 way plugs with 3 wires. Again, the wires color code the same, but the 4 way connectors are smaller on both the new stators I just ordered from ebay than the plug on the wiring harness. They both have a total of 5 wires, like the original stator that went bad. I may have two un-usable stators here. How does one tell the difference as far as which type of ground a stator has?

Hey JR, you da man!! I was about to switch stators, and thought I'd try the new R/R I just got in the mail. Bingo! What's wierd is that its still reading DC at the light socket. Now it doesn't exceed 7 volts when racing the engine. I put a new bulb in, and presto! It glows brilliant white, and doesn't blow the bulb! Of course time will tell for sure, but by George, I think we got 'er! Thanks again bro!<S>
