hi everyone not been on here for a while right ive got this problem with my 2002 yamaha jog r air cooled scooter it wont start from cold unless you place your hand over the intake on the carb to draw petrol into the engine with this done it will start and run perfectly and you can turn it off then with just 1 kick on the kickstarter it fires up right away but leave it for half an hour the b*****d wont start unless you cover the carb inlet again things i have checked for are good spark fit new spark plug stripped and cleaned out carb (3 times) checked autochoke not stuck open (ok) replaced reed valve block sealed all inlet gaskets replaced inlet manifold drained fuel tank and refilled with fresh fuel checked compression (around 90-100 psi) checked for blocked exhaust can anyone help me sort it out before i lose my rag and treat it to 5 litres of petrol and a box of matches thank you ken

What jets are you using? The same issue occured with my bad CARB I had to cover the small pin hole to start it, or blow air in the drain tube.

SOUNDS LIKE your in my boat now. If your bike mokes a lot consider your top end on the way out hit me up I can give you some Links depending on your budget.
