Gy6 150cc
Get it started and after awhile the dash lights, fuel gauge blinkers, horn all go blank as if it's turned off. Rev it up everything works again. For awhile. Then all goes blank.
Multimeter goes haywire and can't get a reading. Attach ground cable and sparks fly everywhere. (Yes key is off) I'm lost Help

Are you sure you have the Battery connected correctly? Wire on the GROUND WIRE ON THE NEGATIVE POST goes to the frame. RED WIRE ON THE POSTIVE POST goes to one of the terminals on the Solenoid. The other Terminal on the Solenoid goes to the STARTER.
Also what wire are you talking about that sparks fly all over the place. What is happening is those things you say go blank work off the BATTERY so re-check how the battery is connected. If your confused take pictures of the battery wiring and solenoid and . Alleyoop

Attach ground cable as in the ground cable from the battery to the frame? If so and you got sparks flying then you have a bad short. Time to take things apart and start tracing wires especially the wire from the battery to the key switch or the black wire form the key switch. JR

Alley I know it is hooked up correctly. With the ignition off. While reconnecting the ground cable to my battery correctly sparks fly all over the place like my ignition is still on! I have 6 other scooters so I know how to hook up a battery. So as mentioned before I'm having trouble getting a reading on my voltmeter while engine is running . It goes bisserk and all dash lights a aforementioned happens. Sorry I can't take picture of my battery while I'm at sea. Thanks, Al

Yep, then you have a bad short, to not get sparks you 1st connect the positive then the ground last when connecting a battery. When un-connecting a battery you 1st take the ground off then the positive so you do not get sparks. But since you are getting spark grounding it the POSITIVE somewhere along the line is touching ground.

That's exactly how I always connect a battery..... When running I'm trying to get the voltage reading on my battery I've never seen anything like this before as my meter (digital) the Screen displays a jumbled mess of numbers and it has a new 9volt in it. I'll trace wires when I get back. Thanks

Engine off, key off:
Remove the negative lead off the battery and measure the voltage of the battery.
If you read 12+vdc then re-attach the negative lead, turn the key on and re-measure.
Turn the key on but do not start... and measure the battery voltage again..
If the battery voltage drops to almost 0 then the battery is toast..
As a note, the stator/charge voltage will look erratic on DC without a battery to smooth it out....
If the battery seems fine then you have a regulator problem or...
Batteries can read great with no load but dead with a load like the lights. Called an open cell.
