Lot's of spoons = snow! I just cut open10 today and 7 had spoons. They are forecasting snow here Sunday 50% chance. Oh well I'm going to be eating persimmon cake as the grandkids and I picked 2 buckets of pretty persimmons this afternoon.

Persimmon seed was right, got 2 inches last night! We had 4 deaths because of Tuesdays storm so 2 inches means nothing. We measure snow in feet round here. Buffalo was hit with up to 5' and more is on the way. Sorry southerners but suck it up.

Colder than a well diggers --ankles here--and we got slammed with a half inch of snow and drivers flipped over in ditches and spun out on ice--and crashed into one another--and that's in their own driveways and --man -it's chaos here--whew !

Making jokes about this is in poor taste and I would expect better from this forum. Guess I was wrong Death toll is now up to 13 and it still isn't over. So joke all you want. Hopefully none of the people that died weren't any of YOUR family. Prayers to those that lost loved ones. The storms aren't over yet.

JR you can keep your twisters ( never wishing one on anyone) but at least we can usually plan/prepare for snow storms. This lake effect storm was more than most believed possible.

Hopefully none of the people that died weren't any of YOUR family. Prayers to those that lost loved ones. The storms aren't over yet. No one was making a joke here, especially Flintstone. Need to remember people in the South like where Flintstone and I are from don't see much snow but we do get out share of ice and if you have ever driven on either you know real quickly that snow is easy to drive on than ice.
I'm good at both, that's why I keep my 93 Chevy 4 X 4 but a lot of people aren't. You can get hurt or die with a thin 1/4' layer of ice on the road as easily as you can 1ft of snow. snow packs down while ice just stays slippery as snot.
This last storm which BTW hit us first and ended up at your place gained a lot of steam before it hit you and you being father north and colder made it worse. Now it's going to be freaky and melt all at once and give you something that in the south we are a lot more familiar with than you and that's floods which can also kill. Ever lived by a river like the Arkansas River? I can ride my scooter 45 seconds and stick my feet in it, there are 4 locks and dams on it in a 50 mile radius from where I live. Ever go to bed and wake up with your house 3ft deep in water or better yet look down the river and see someone's house floating in it?
In 2000 southwest Arkansas where I was born and raised was hit with what weather people called a once in a century ice storm, it hit Christmas night. 16 hours later and after 9 deaths there was 12 to 16 inches of ice over 9 counties, not one flake of snow. Temps stayed below freezing for 7 days. Thousands of acres of forest leveled like a weed eater hit them, chicken houses that people owned that raise the very chicken you eat leveled with 100k in each house of dead chickens. Power lines gone, I went 46 days with no electricity and ran a generator.
I spent 12 hours with a chain saw and axe cutting my way down hwy 369 to my shop 36 miles away to get one of my large welder/generator combinations.
No one here thinks anyone dying is funny nor do they think this storm that has hit you is funny. I even took your comments the other day with a grain of salt and wasn't offended:
I can remember these comments when you northerners are whining about 90 temps in the summer when we're roasting here at 100+ temps too but I just joke about it because in all reality there is nothing more we can do about the weather than throw out a funny every now and then.

Well, there's that saying, probably started by our local slaves,"We laugh to keep from crying"--true even today---and we make fun of snow ,tornadoes ,floods, heat waves(115 in the shade) ice storms that break down our trees and power lines and poles, earthquakes that vibrate our beds at night ---right here in JR's part of the country, the storms form up and head northeast across Arkansas, into the Missouri boot heel, into northwest Tennessee ,on into Kentucky--since 2001 we have had killer tornadoes here ,one in 2006 killed 32 people right around us,moved on into parts of Ky before petering out--about 3 years ago floods never seen before flooded my home town,Dyersburg, and forced the people in the south part of town to flee-the businesses and homes in about 40% of town were ruined--reminded me of New Orleans--many of the buildings are still not usable --the last winter here was the coldest in memory, causing our heating bills to go into the stratosphere, and for old folks on SS income it was devastating--I know--we tried to get assistance from local government and they did offer some relief and it came 6 months later in July--too little ,too late--another cold spell like that and old folks will freeze to death here--the Mississippi River is the one that floods regularly here ,and backs up our little rivers ,the Obion and the Forked Deere into our county--Dyer--flooded out all the land below the city limits of Finley to the Mississippi--about 12 miles of land east to west and all along the Mississippi for hundreds of miles--and this is in the last 3 years- I can document a lot of it by photograph --tornadoes,floods--some snow --ice storms that paralyzed the area in 9 counties ---so ,we joke about all this stuff when we can--it keeps our spirits up ,I guess--when it floods,I text my son up north and ask him to send the Ark,so we won't drown, wind ,we think Florida relocated to southern Canada after that hurricane went over it and reversed course and went back over it the other way--our chickens laid the same egg twice ,the wind was so fierce--our local news TV station predicted an inch of snow and late that night come on with an emergency announcement"West Tennessee is being slammed with up to a half inch of snow and ice, don't drive if you don't have to,don't leave your homes"--true story--yup--we poke fun at the sad situations that the weather brings but I have never heard JR or me or anyone on this forum make fun of people getting hurt or killed by dangerous weather--there it is as I say,"laugh ,it keeps you from crying"--some of the most caring people populate this forum and some get a little off topic once in a while, but no harm is meant--happy trails, sorry about wasting all this ink--fflintstone ::X25::

Believe me , as I live here in Midwestern Indiana ,I have seen most of bad weather . Truthfully , in the winter time , I would rather have snow than ice . Snow you can drive on if you use your head and take your time . Ice , does a lot more damage than just driving on the roads . Black Ice is the worst . You cannot tell where it is on the roadway and the first thing you know , you are headed for the ditch .

Weather related deaths are sad and I feel for the folks up north and those down south. I'm chair of our property owner's assoc. roads committee and I'm about 25% over budget for snow removal and we're getting about 6" today. Feb. was our coldest on record.
We're supposed to be able to put our boats on the water beginning March 1. Problem - the ice is 12" thick!
