I am thinking about getting a TaoTao EVO 150 and wondering if any on here has put a stroker and or a big bore kit? If so how did it hold up and is it worth it. I have built many a Harley stroker and or big bore kits.

I think they are worth it, the GY6 motors are usually 157QMJs and put out just a little over 8HP. They are good for about 50+ mph the + is maybe 55mph or little over 50.
Here is my setup on my 2009 ICE BEAR TRIKE that I bought back in March of 2009. It has almost 11,000 miles on it, 5,000 on the stock motor and 6,000 on the BBK.

It will run at 50mph at 5100-5200 rpms and 60 at 6100-6200 rpms, it almost runs 10mph for every K. Running at those low RPMS really saves the motor as you well know. When I first got it, it would run only 50mph at around 8200 rpms and the motor was screaming.

I am looking at a kit that is a 63.8mm stroke with a 62mm bore for around 200CC with a big valve head. A 30mm carburetor not sure which one now but a good exhaust system with a gear set and a good filter. The kit comes with a stroker piston so no cylinder base plate is necessary. A good ignition and coil. I am looking to be able to curse at least  60 MPH all day or more.

Have to tell you boring it out to fit a 63 bbk will not leave much meat on the side of the chain valley as well as around the stud holes. On another forum a guy actually bought GY6 Case half's already bored out to except the 63bbk and with the vibrations and heat it tour the side open on the chain side and around two of the stud holes. Actually that is why I went with the 62mm and not the 63, I did want the 63 naturally but after others said what I am saying to you I went with the 62.

Being I have my own machine shop in my basement and been wrenching for over 44 years.  I build quite a few $5000 and $6000 dollar motors for others on Harley s.

I am rethinking things as I know the bigger bore the hotter a engine will get when it is thin. I am all so go with a smaller stroke then what I was at first and more then likely a oil cooler.

What is the stock bore on the GY6 150?

I am 235 pounds and looking to build something I can run at least 60MPH all day as well as be reliable and good chance a sidecar.

I see they make many cams but cannot find a specifications on them. A proper cam has all to do with making something to give you what you are looking to use the vehicle for. 

All constructive input is welcome.

One other thing the cylinders I am talking about are not boring out the stock cylinder but is a complete different cylinder as you have to bore the case for the cylinders to work.

And that is what I am talking about. Boring out the CASE not the jugs cylinder. The Case is what breaks due to not enough material left around the stud holes and the chain valley to fit the bigger diameter JUG and the whole thing goes KABOOM.

They sure do not give much on these cams. Lift is nice but timing and duration the valve is open tells more. Guess I am too use to the specifications on motorcycle cams.

Well at least you have what you need to know that the A8 or A9 are what you are going to wind up with if you want top end rather than low end torque.

Yes what you listed is a big help. The more duration more for a RPM cam and less duration is more of a torque cam. If everything goes well in the next month I hope to order a TaoTao Evo 150 scooter. I really need another means of transportation as I will be building a low to mid torque motor for my only transportation now since I have a hack and she will have well over 100,000 miles hopefully with in the next year.

Should be long case, not any 150's I know of anymore use the short case. Also you made a fine point Jeff and that's heat. Since you live in the deep south like me in Arkieland if you want to ride her for long spells at 60mph with a sidecar I'm concerned. Lot's of extra weight and you have to allow for the weight on the gearing. Now if you're easing along on the flat road on a nice fall day like now it's possible.

But in July like here to Sept. when temps hit over the 100F plus the humidity it's a stretch to hold 60mph on a GY-6 even with a BBK. Yes I've put a oil cooler on mine and I didn't go for one of the online mickey mouse types that work off of the bottom drain plug alone. I built one with a electric pump to slowly move the oil for better cooling. Put the cooling radiator up front, came off the bottom drain plug and put the oil back in on the side drain plug.

If you got her tuned right, jetted right for good running and not lean to make her run hotter it helps but even then oil temps on this engine easily hit 300F. I know I did lost of tests, even used different oils for cooler temp tests, best I found was dino Castrol GTX 10W/40W. If you run her in the hills like I do then you just add to the stress by needing more RPM to pull the hills which means lower variator weight combinations and more heat. Also if you do use a electric pump system then you have to stay in the Stator electric output range or upgrade to a 11 pole stator.

Not trying to sound negative, just giving you more to consider. I ride my 150 just every now and then, I now ride water cooled 250's which is a better option in the heat. All depends on what, how, and where you ride?
