This will be my first winter with a trike. With the scoot, I would start it up once a week during winter and let it run for 15 minutes or so. This was on the center stand, so the rear wheel would spin freely during the warm-up high idle. With the trike, is it a bad idea to have the brake(s) on during high idle (excessive wear on any components)? If so, guess I'll have to jack up the rear for winter storage.

I should think that with ANY scoot, revving it to the point where the wheel(s) want to turn but can't because you're holding the brakes would cause clutch pad wear, and probably some heat and wear to the belt as well. I personally would stick with putting it on the center stand if your trike has one -- mine doesn't, have to jack it up. For me it's a minor pain, but for you, if you really have a center stand (!), shouldn't be a big deal.
BTW, with mine, I'm not in a position to start it regularly, so I just put enzyme stabilizer in the full gas tank and drained the engine oil completely, which the one and only motorcycle shop in that town said is the way to go. First winter, will see next May whether that was good advice.

You do not need to rev it up so much as to have the wheels turning. I have had my trike now for almost 5 years and in the winter it sits in the garage and every week or two I start it and let it warm up 15-20 minutes and just goose it once in a while not enough to move the trike. I have my cvt setup that the clutch will not engage until around 2300 rpms so I just give it some quick little twists not enough to get it moving and that is it. By starting it once every week or every two weeks it keeps the carb clean and the motor lubricated as well as the seals and gaskets as well as the battery charged up. I have a Junior Battery Charger and I have yet to use it to keep my battery charged. My charging system is excellent at idle it is charging at 14+ same as when I am riding. And come spring again it is ready to tear up the streets without any problems starting or anything. Alleyoop

ellpee,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't have a center stand on the trike. alley,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,at high idle I'm at 3200 rpm, then it settles down to 1600 to 1800 after a few minutes. 3200 is just about at the point where the clutch engages. I don't see any way of adjusting high idle. No revving involved. Thanks for your replies!

When you start it cold and the ENRICHER is feeding it extra fuel does the trike move? If so lower the Idle there is a Screw with a spring on it on the Throttle Cable Side you cannot miss it. Turn it Counter Clockwise just a tiny bit IT DOES not take much to lower or raise the Idle to where at when you start it cold it DOES not move. Alleyoop Your high performance 30mm Carb does it look something like this: Notice where the IDLE SPEED SCREW is at.

Alley, the carb I bought is here: .scrappydogscooters.com/125_150cc_Performance.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.scrappydogscooters.com/125_150cc_Performance.htmlIf you scroll down to Performance 30mm CVK Carburetor you will see it. I've already adjusted the idle screw so that when the engine warms up it's at the right rpm. But no matter how low I set the idle screw (say 1000 rpm when warm, which is way too low) it doesn't affect the 3200 rpm warm-up. And at 3200 the trike barely starts to move. Perfect scenario would be if high idle was between 2500 & 2800 rpm but I can't see any way of adjusting the enricher itself. As always, thanks for your input and advise! Tom

You can try Leaning out the Fuel Ratio Mixture a little try 1/4 turns clockwise see if that is enough to take away some fuel. Don't forget the Pilot Jet and the ENRICHER are feeding fuel at the same time. The 30mm carbs pump out a lot of fuel. Alleyoop

I have the same carb on my Viking with the same issue. I think I can get away with it in TX, so in the near future I will add a switch to the enricher circuit and turn it off. These are "pumper" carbs so I think I can just twist the throttle a couple times and hit the starter. I don't have much winter to deal with so I can start mine every few days if we get a cold spell.
