scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=8446So there are some who say they have never had any issues with ethanol running in their machines? You have trouble every time you go to the pump. Even if the whatever you put it in seems to run fine there is no escaping the long term effects of ethanol ......and the simple fact that you get less MPG. Even the very people who make it and support it know this and admit it. So by getting less MPG you shell out more moola to the very people who say this is a good thing. Every time you go to the grocery store and buy a simple chicken for Sunday dinner you pay more for it because the farmer who is selling all of his corn for ethanol now can get more for his corn to feed the very chicken he is selling you. I also read in this thread about Shell gasoline, not for me any more. Just this past July I stopped at Shell in the neighboring city and bought the ethanol BS gas for my 250B. Long story short had to drain the tank and got nearly a cup of water out of the tank. Believe me when I say the 30mm carbs on the 250B hate water. I don't drive my 93 Silverado very much anymore, in fact it's just my camper and boat pulling vehicle. Thank the Lord I can still get ethanol free gas 8 miles up the road and I keep the tank full of it for those days I have to fire it up and take mama to work because of icy roads. As a nurse she has to go to work regardless of the road conditions. You can actually feel the power difference with ethanol free gas running through that 350 small block and I've tested it time and time again even in my scooters I get 3 to 5 more MPG with ethanol free gas. MY two stroke Johnson 70Hp outboard had to have the carbs cleaned and when I dumped the tank all that stinking nasty gas was good for was killing fire ants. MY wife drives 100 miles round trip to work 3 to 4 days a week and 3 to 5 MPG adds up at that rate. When she can't get to the ethanol free gas station up the road and she's low on gas she put's just enough of the crappy fuel in to make it until she can get to the good station and what's even funnier ethanol free gas here is on the average 5 cents a gallon cheaper which is even more savings. So to say you have no trouble with it, Oh yes you do! JR

If your concerned with mpg of course you will always have complainers. Everyone I think by now knows the fuels with a lot of ethanol has less punch.
Here is my opinion on the matter: I have been using SHELL for over 25 years here in Illinois in all my cars and I drive expensive cars not one single problem related to gas in all those years. The hoses on my Trike are original. The Trike has the same hoses it came with and it was made in 2008 sold as a 2009 and I bought it in march of 2009 . That has been my real life experience so when people say this and that they do not really know. They probably got a bad batch of gas at the time and now believe that gas is bad, or they happen to have filled it up right after the tanks were filled and got crap sucked into their tank, or it happened to rain and rain got into the tank somehow. This is how WILDFIRES START All BS from people that don't really know. They may talk a good game but they just are guessing and stating their opinion on something they know nothing about. Hear a lot of this all the time and I JUST LAUGH IT IS ALL BS but everyone has their opinion on things. Just one story in the big city as they say. Alleyoop

I have seen what ethanol can do to a scooters carb as well as my motor home's generator. I use StaBil in all my scoots fuel and in my CRV. Around here we cant get ethanol free gas easily. I dont have a horse in this race, just saying.

Since you are like me and retired the extra mileage loss is minor but for someone like my wife who is driving 400 to 500 miles a week the savings add up and that isn't a complaint but a fact. I take the kids to school each day and to ball games etc. and it equals about 250 miles a week all adds up. Again at an average of 5 cents a gallon less adds up too. I have been using SHELL for over 25 years here in Illinois in all my cars and I drive expensive cars not one single problem related to gas in all those years. The hoses on my Trike are original. The Trike has the same hoses it came with and it was made in 2008 sold as a 2009 and I bought it in march of 2009 .
As little as 10 years ago Shell sold non-ethanol gas and I drive a 2012 Traverse and the wife a 2012 Cruze both decked out with the cost of both at around $65K together so what does and expensive car have to do with anything? If you're getting less mileage it doesn't matter if you're driving a 1962 Chevy? Is the idea that if the car is expensive and it runs ok on ethanol gas then it's alright? I have one scooter that is a 07 and it along with my other scooters run better on non-ethanol gas. Remember I can buy both forms of gas so to say that this is how BS starts and people don't know would show that since you can't or don't buy non-ethanol gas are making a statement with no basis or proof other than you're vehicles are expensive and your trike has OEM hoses and all is fine. You also say you keep the Seafoam ready and use it, myself I have a bottle of Seafoam, it's 3 years old and it's been in my 250B twice, the last time was a few weeks ago when I bought a tank of watered gas at Shell. If you was buying good old non-ethanol gas like you did a few years back you could throw the Seafoam in the trash. But you've never got on that trike and took a one way over 400 mile trip to the tune of five times either so how do you know that the machine wouldn't do better on non-ethanol gas. Again just running better, the scooter having more get up and go and better mileage is facts enough and that' not a uneducated guess or starting BS for a wildfire, it's a fact I can prove. I agree with the tank at a station can just have water and I later found out that the Shell station I mentioned was closed for two days, tanks drained and hopefully they won't have this issue anymore, but if they keep it up they will soon be closed. I only bought gas there because I was making a 75 miles trip to Van Buren County and had forgot to stop and get gas at my normal non-ethanol station. I also have a old 14hp Craftsman mower a 88 model, rings are poor and she has low compression, believe me when I say it won't hardly start on ethanol gas. I only use her to putt around the place to do yard chores. In the winter I make sure all my mowers and equipment have the tanks full so they won't sweat and fill with water. I live in a place with high humidity and the type of gas you get is effected by that humidity. Just one story in the big city as they say.
Yep and even in the big city you still buy things that are higher in cost to eat and has nothing to do with putting it in "your" tank unless that's what you call your belly. And as a person who has worked at things over the years that have supported the food industry believe me I know and am not guessing so that's narrow that "everyone" phrase to some people. Do remember the Shell station that you patronize laughs at you and "everyone" every week when they go to the bank for buying the non-ethanol gas and if I'm betting they don't even say thank you when you fill up? I know my friend you remember the good old days when you and I even bought the leaded make your car run like a scalded ape gas, the kind that when we got on the line out on an old road and hit the pedal with that four barrel Holley your head would snap to the back of the seat, those days are gone and we now buy what others tell us is better for us type gas. It's only better to those who make it and not everyone who uses it. Thank goodness we are seeing more and more of this here.

All BS, it appears only the scoot public complains about ethanol. Doesn't take any brains to know drive something heavy or something with a V6-V8 your going to use more gas SO get smart If your a mpg person and have to travel long distance to get to work get a FORE TWO and quite beaching I say. The world is changing so get with the program or your going to get an ulcer ((*. As for going 400 miles or whatever on my Trike, Nay, to me its a toy just for putt-sing around not my main transportation by no means. I like to travel in a more save vehicle and relax with the air condition on in the summer and the heat in the winter(but that is just me). Still say it is all BS and get with the program or be a beach-er all your life, there are more pressing things to worry about than a couple of mpg saved. ^) Alleyoop

Also as I said just MPG isn't the only long term effect of ethanol, remember that when you buy that next T-bone. JR

You don't sugar coat things with people that think they know everything and attack from behind. You have to pound it into their thick skulls if you can. Besides I have done my time and paid my dues and people that are to nice always come in last. So you have to have some moxie otherwise you will get eaten up and out Alleyoop

Yea Wolf I'm not a Shell fan never have been in fact. When I can't get the non-ethanol gas I look for a Exxon station first. Around here the Shell stations are always the old ones and lots of times dirty. Not going to sugar coat that one. Hey old Alley and I are cool, you should see some of the emails we send to each other, when it comes down to it he's really just a big old teddy bear! ;D His wife has told off on him when I call! ;-X We'll always be buds! Chevron is my choice . The wife uses BP. Alley, at those Chi Town prices I can see why you ride a scoot as much as possible. I just got 10 gallons of diesel for my Kubota tractor, $3.90 a gallon. Paying $3.54 a gallon for regular. Now that the monsoon season is over I will be riding the 170i a lot more. Here in NGA a lot of the brands are hitting $4.00 a gal. for hi test. o))

No, the scoot is just a toy for me just to joy ride for about 1-2 hours and only if it is not windy and not to hot and not to cold has to be a nice day . We use our cars all the time, I am lucky and saved for retirement and can afford some luxuries and no need to watch my pennies. Alleyoop

I can afford it too but don't like the way it has driven up the prices of things while old man government tells us it's "good" for us. I worked, saved, still have a wife that does work and makes very good money but I guess it was my raising? I was raised by people that survived the depression and no matter if I can afford it or not I don't like wasting my money over BS crap like ethanol. I enjoy a lot more going to the casinos and blowing it like I want to! JR
