Tao Tao 50, 49cc scooter. Purchased this year. Currently has 4700 km. I was side swiped weekend before last. Modest impact, but had to lay the bike down. Crack in the fender, but rode off, a little sluggish. Time for a gear oil change and an oil change. Went ahead and did that. Then Tuesday I leave for work and get 100 ft and the engine looses power and eventually dies, even with gas. So we replace the fuel filter, check the lines, pull the carb and clean it. Replaced the CDI. Bike still does same thing. It runs for about 3 minutes and then wanes and dies, regardless of throttle. Please help, I am assisting my gear-headed friend and we are running out of ideas. I wan to keep the work at home. Please advise.

Appears there is no gas being sucked out of the carb bowl out of the PILOT JET, it starts and runs but is only getting fed fuel from your ENRICHER. After it runs for about 3 min or so the ENRICHER cuts off the extra fuel for starting and it dies. So take the carb off and check the PILOT JET make sure you can see daylight through it. Then Get a can of Carb Clearer they come with a long thin straw and SPRAY INTO the HOLE that the PILOT JET SCREWS INTO. FUEL SHOULD COME OUT HERE: Alleyoop

I would compression test it . It might be a carb problem too .

Ok. Pulled carb. Cleaned jet, as per your instructions. New battery, and it started up after a little fuss. Ran ok for a little bit, but, you have to caox it to keep it running. Starting issues, sporatically, for a day. Then no start at all. Replaced spark plug. No start. Now we are really out of ideas. Any pointers?

Did you re-adjust your carbs Fuel Ratio Mixture? If not turn it clockwise until it stops and then turn it out 2 1/2 turns. Let it warm up idling then ADJUST the screw to get the highest IDLE .
First try richening the mixture more: Turn it Counter Clockwise 1/4 turn and see if the IDLE GOES UP OR DOWN OR DOES NOTHING. A. If the IDLE GOES UP REPEAT the 1/4 turns UNTIL the IDLE does not go up or does nothing then turn it CLOCKWISE 1/8. If your rear wheel is spinning because the idle is to high LOWER THE IDLE USING THE IDLE SPEED SCREW, that is the screw on the THROTTLE SIDE with a spring under it Turn that Counter Clockwise to lower your idle so that your REAR WHEEL BARELY wants to turn.
IF, on the first 1/4 turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE(RICHENING) the mixture the IDLE GOES DOWN or does nothing GO CLOCKWISE with the same procedure as above. YOU WANT TO GET THE HIGHEST IDLE out of the FUEL RATIO MIXTURE SCREW.
If after this it still is hard to start and or wants to DIE, Adjust your valves. Alleyoop
