Hey everyone. I just installe a new muffler and head pipe on my 150cc reverse trike scooter. After the motor warms up, there is a burning smell coming from the muffler, and the head pipe is hot enough to melt hard plastic. I just need to know if this is normal? Like a break-in period for the muffler and pipe. I have read on some other forums including car and truck forums that a brand new exhaust system will have a bad smell for a little while, due to the gaskets setting, paint curing, machining oil burning off, etc. I just need to know if the same holds true for scooters. This is the first muffler I have replaced on a scooter. Thank you all for your help in this matter.

Is the heat pipe turning read?? Is this a PERFORMANCE EXHAUST meaning FREE FLOW MUFFLER? New Mufflers will smell due to oils and the packing burning. But if the pipe itself is getting red or blue it needs more fuel. Alleyoop
