This came up in another thread about a more specific problem, but since it's generic to any scooter I'm re-starting it here with a title I hope will attract lots of answers and opinions. What's the value-added for paying 3-4 times as much for an iridium or triple platinum or whatever spark plug? I am personally not into high performance, if I wanted to lay rubber I wouldn't be driving scooters. Are these higher-end plugs also better for lesser issues such as mixture a bit too rich or lean? Do they give a stronger spark, and if so, so what? Why do I, a just-want-it-to-start-every-time-and-keep-on-running-and-make-it-up-the-hills kind of guy, want to pay the extra cost for a fancy plug?

The Iridium Plugs last longer and also create a bigger and better spark. That ignites the fuel mixture a lot better. If you do put one in you will NOTICE right away that your IDLE all of a sudden will be higher and you will need to lower it. That alone does prove that it is burning the mixture quicker and better and your motor is now eating STEAK and not ROUND GROUND(HAHA).
Now you do not have to get one you asked for some poop on IRIDIUM plug and that is what I found the difference to be. Alleyoop

Dat be kool, Alley. (Fancy meeting you here ... !!) If I can get better ignition despite possible minor rich/lean variations in the carb settings, that's probably worth a few extra bucks. I've even seen plugs with three electrodes instead of one, though I don't know there's one like that for scooters. Five bucks extra for the plug ain't gonna kill me, but on the other hand, don't want to spend the money on plugs instead of beer unless there's going to be some relevant benefit. As I posted, for the most part I'm a "good enough is good enough" scootguy. If it starts, this time, next time, every time, and runs reasonably well until I get back home, I'm good.

HAHAHA, I am all over like dog poo I am an admin/mod on three forums, This one, ITS THE RIDE and ScooterDoc. That's a fact jack, if your happy with it now no need to fix something that is not broken. But next time you change the plug you can try one and see if you like it(no biggy). Alleyoop
