I'm happy with 50 mph top end on my Viking, but it takes a week to get there. I've found a complete kit by NCY that upgrades the clutch and variator for about 200 bucks. Is this kit OK for a trike and is it an upgrade that is worth the cost/install effort? I have already installed the CDI, coil, plug combo. I'm thinking that if I open her up for slider, I might as well do the whole package.

I believe the NCY KIT is a waste of money really your basically paying for the NAME "NCY"
All you really need is a PERFORMANCE VARIATOR 115MM in Diameter and Weights to match it up to get a few more MPH top end. The Clutch side is not going to give you any thing except they put in stronger Springs on the 3 Clutch pads and maybe a stronger CONTRA SPRING.
The CLUTCH PAD SPRINGS all they do is REQUIRE HIGHER RPMS before the PADS are thrown out to grab the BELL to turn your wheel. The CONTRA SPRING requires more RPMS to open the CLUTCH PULLEY to get to a higher speed.
So if your happy with the 50mph top end speed just get a PERFORMANCE VARIATOR like the KOSCO 115mm Variator and some 11 and 12 gram weights. That will raise your rpms and be quicker getting to your 50mph and maybe a little better on your top end. FORGET about the CLUTCH you do not need that. Alleyoop

There are those that will argue I am sure but why pay more for the same product because of the name. Another example of this is oil, a quart of Valvoline 10w40 in their pretty bottle is $5.95 at my local NAPA, the NAPA brand 10w40 is $3.25 and is made by Valvoline, so why pay an additional $2.70 for a pretty bottle? I have used both the KOSCO variators and Scrappydog's Performance variators with excellant results. Jim

[replyingto=steve]steve[/replyingto]Thanks to both of you for your much needed help. I do not know if all Ice Bear trikes use the same frame geometry, but the design of the frame on mine seems to have way to much flex. I would be a little uncomfortable going much over 50 on that machine. I am thinking about to installing 1 inch tubing supports for that front end.
