Fairly new Chinese Scooter...I go 10 or 15 miles and park...when I try to start it a few minutes or a couple of hours later, it takes a long time to start. Also, when coasting down a hill, with the clutch engaged or whatever, there's an intermittent drag. There is also one sometimes going up hills and on flat roads. It's an off-on problem that is unpredictable. I checked the fuel filter since I assumed the problem was due to gas blockage but it was clean.

For the hard starting it is probably the valves are a little tight. If this is a 50cc set the TOP INTAKE Valve to .003 inchs and BOTTOM EXHAUST Valve to .004 inchs.

The drag are you sure it is not engine breaking on you? In other words if rolling faster than the engine is putting out you will notice the motor holding it back. The scoot going downhill will pick up speed but the motor is behind that speed so it holds it back.

It starting the drag thing at about 800K. The starting problem is from when it was new. If I wait and start walking up the road with it, it will surprise me every time and start up...but it takes much longer than it usually does. It happens sometimes and sometimes not...which makes it even more of a problem.

Alley is very good with these things and i say checking the valves is the best thing to do first with the valves tight it will cause the hard starting and can cause the drag feeling you are getting

Are you saying the RPMS are at 800? No wonder it drags, the motor has no power at that low of rpms. It should idle at NO LESS THAN 1500 rpms, so bring up the IDLE using the IDLE SPEED SCREW turn that clockwise to get the IDLE UP.

That low of RPMS can also be the cause of the hard starting, the butterfly is just about closed. RIght in front of the butterfly are tiny holes that it sucks fuel out of. There are usually 4 tiny holes in a diamond shape. As you idle it up to about 1500 rpms it exposes two more holes for a total of 3.

That will help for starting because for starting it needs a littl more fuel.

No...I don't know anything about RPM's. 800K means that's how many miles are on it...it's a fairly new scooter. I don't know why the valves would all of a sudden be too tight at 800K. also, it's not a constant drag, but sporadic.

Sorry about that...I meant the scooter has 800 miles on it NOT 800K......

800 miles is about right for the valves to be adjusted, so adjust the valves FIRST before you do anything else.
Many will attack the carb to compensate for the tight valves and then have to re-adjust the carb after they adjust the valves.

I don't have .003 or .004. I have 0.03, 0.30 and 0.04 and 0.40.

Well use put both the .03 and .04 together that will at least give you ALMOST .003 inchs. When you stick both of them in one on top of the other just set it so they slide in and out EASY. That way they may come in at .003 or .004 setting. But you should go and get the right thickness feeler gauge set that has .003 and .004 .005 .006 etc.

.03 + .04 = .07 or 70 thousandths which is no where near 3 or 4 thousands that the valves should be set at. Get a cheap set of feeler gages and do it right.

Your answer is too complicated. The math means nothing to me because I'm just a "sophmore." I have a set of gauges(slices of thin metal) that fold out, range: .02-1mm. I adjusted the valves to .05 like the guy on youtube said to and it didn't make any difference. It still takess a long time to start and it drags up and downhill and on flat as if I am applying the brakes on and off.

Cruiser says Alleyoop is incorrect. Are there any other 2 gauges I can put together to get the right size?
