OK last season when I was riding home from work(night shift) I noticed that the low beams i could see the road nicely directly in front of me..But drivers for some reason kept pulling right out in front of me all the time.So I started to use the high beams..But did not like that I could not see directly in front of me(ex potholes, man hole covers, road kills)So I started to move the headlight switch in between the high and low beams till I got both on and wham I loved that I could see near me and down the road..So yesterday when I pulled the scooter out for the 1st time this year I figured I would try to wire up another switch so I could keep the factory headlight switch for low beams and put in my own to turn on the high beams at the same time..I put in a light up rocker switch and could not get the high beams to come on....Hmm so I started to switch the wires around on the poles of the rocker switch while the engine was running, and just as i thought i had it the engine quit running and would not start..Checked for spark and had none..tried to use another coil and still no spark.looked at the fuse next to the battery on the smaller Gage wire and it looked fine...at a loss at why it would loose spark while playing with the headlight wires ???HELP

Welcome to the forum! Can you tell me what make, year and model of scooter, it does make a difference. If you have no headlights there are several things that could cause that but no spark is generally a few isolated things. Also since you've done some wiring or switch changing the first thing that comes to mind is a pulled loose wire that feeds the CDI. Again tell me what scooter you have and we'll go from there. JR

A friend stopped by and narrowed it done to what he thinks is the regulator..got 12v in to it but puts out very little to the coil

he R/R has nothing to do with the spark plug ing system there is an coil just for the ing system check and make sure that you did not hook the extra switch into the kill wire for the bike

Its only hooked to the 3 wires on the lights. The kill switch is on the other side of the bars. The regulator has 12v going to it but nothing going to the coil.We also tried jumping the kill switch and that did not work...I was told the regulator probably went bad cause I was running the high beams and lowbeams at the same time.

If it cant be the R/R then the only thing left is the PICK-UP coil...

If no SPARK it could also be the CDI WHICH FEEDS THE COIL which gets its juice from the Stator OR Battery(IF you CDI is DC). When it is almost at TOP DEAD CENTER the PICKUP COIL sends a signal to the CDI to release the voltage to the COIL to fire the plug. Alleyoop

[replyingto=kered409]kered409[/replyingto]well you changed the stator . Tell us the wire colors from the stator , yellow , white , green in one plug . then black/red in a bullet connector and something/blue on the other bullet connector ?
Lets see what you have then we can go from there .

They are right, the R/R has nothing to do with the spark, it's sole purpose is for charging and help with the lights. I wouldn't pull the stator until I put a volt meter on it and tested it. Just throwing parts at it is not the answer.
We can walk you through the tests with no problem.
