so i rigged up the studs and she went together fine but the local scoot shop gave me a gasket that was a copper ring. installed it and the scoot was still loud.not as loud but idle still pops loud (kinda like a harley pop pop pop poppoppop pop). well i ordered a real (double sided ) racing gasket. istalled it and I still have the same noise!!! it cant be leaking. this all started when the muffler nuts came off and i broke a stud. it sounds like the nise is coming from where the muffler meets the head. i dont knowwhat else to do. and on the way into work today the back wheel felt like it was sliding out on me a lil. checked for play side to side and psi in tire. all is well. im really beginning to feel like the xtra 1000 on name brand would have been worth it.

How long did you ride it with Pipe Leaking and backfireing? Reason I ask it it may have already burned your exhaust valve.
Have you tried adjusting the valves.
If you give it gas does it make any sounds? POPS, BRAT, BOGS etcc.. Also if you give it a twist what sounds does it make going down to idle? Alleyoop

I got a new head w/ studs on the way. I am gonna swap it when i get my new carb jets. The bike is much quieter. I think the gasket may have needed to be broken in??? i dunno. Anyways, I have a few questions. Is the valve clearence per bike or per engine. i would think gy6 150cc is all it goes by. Also, does the new head need to be broken it or is that just for the piston?

The valves are PER engine and just about all of the 150+ motors you see the gaps to INTAKE to .004 inchs and the EXHAUST the same or you can go a little wider .005 inchs since the EXHAUST valve is the one that will tighten up due to the extreme heat that side of the head takes. The head does not need to be broken in it is the piston rings. Alleyoop

04, What scoot do you have and what motor is on there? Most scoots the carb jets are NOT MARKED, but if it is a 150 they come with a 24mm carb and usually come with a #35 Pilot Jet and anywhere from a 103-105 Main Jet.
If its a 50cc they usually come with an 18mm Carb and usually come with a #30 Pilot Jet and anywhere from a 69-72 Main jet. Alleyoop

Beakeyozz, your are running lean that is why she crackles and pops. Give the Fuel Ratio screw 1/4 turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE at a time until it goes away. You will also see better low and midrange speed. Alleyoop
