Guys it's no secret of what's going on with some of the other forums and one thing that is happening with our forum hosting service Proboards is the option of upgrading to their new Betazone software. Here is some of the features they sent me on a PM: What is BetaZone and ProBoards v5?
In BetaZone, participating admins have the exclusive chance to test their forums in ProBoards v5 mode. ProBoards v5 is our new forum software which includes numerous upgrades to your forum. This includes integrated forum notifications, live search (get results as you type your search!), a new single sign-on for all ProBoards forums, a fully revamped forum admin panel, a posting WYSIWYG editor, the ProBoards Avatar Maker, direct access to your forum's HTML templates, "Liking" posts, infinite sub-boards, @tagging members in posts, integrated shoutbox, personal messages with more than two people in the conversation, and literally hundreds more new features!Now I could just switch this to the new system but I really wanted everyone's opinion on it first, that's important to me and even though I haven't read it any where my thoughts are eventually Proboards may require this upgrade and I have no choice? That's another reason I wanted to see how members here felt about it, if we do change then for sure it'll take some getting used to and I'll have to stay in constant touch with Proboards to get everything tweaked and such to get it to a smooth operating status but that's no big deal. Didn't know anything about how to do a forum much when I started this one and they helped me then like they will now. I've found that changing is sometimes hard, example I got a smart phone for Christmas, first day I almost threw it in the trash but slowly I'm figuring it out, the thing I saw right off the bat is you have to be smart to use a "smart" phone.  Another one is I recently had a computer crash with Windows 7 which I love and bought a new one with 8, at first I hated some of the things on 8 but I've tweaked here and there and I've got it like I like now. The same will be with this new upgrade, if we go to it folks will like some things some will not. They are allowing one to set up a sample forum to let the owners learn how to work with the system which will help a lot. JRon dougs site, he hasnt worked all the bugs out, 'member he's
still a working guy, unlike some of us,lol, but so far i cant find the NEWEST threads, i wouldnt like that. i dont want to search thru every section to find new threads,
ya know what i mean?

On another forum that I am sure is an update, they have a small flag at the beginning of a new, unread by me post, that is a small box that says NEW. It would be just in front of the thread title. nicetomeet.proboards.com/If not a member then maybe the NEW label won't show. |

I agree that the example of white on black is poor. But I think that is up to the operator of that particular forum. If you take a look at the one I suggested to look at, it is greys and greens with black type. That forum also changes colors by seasons or for special events.

On another forum that I am sure is an update, they have a small flag at the beginning of a new, unread by me post, that is a small box that says NEW. It would be just in front of the thread title. nicetomeet.proboards.com/If not a member then maybe the NEW label won't show.
are u a member of rebels?
well as of right now, Doug may fix it, there is NO newest threads, like here. i like the newest thread section.
that way i dont have to search every section, ie 50cc, 15occ and up section, pics section, all those different sections |

No buggin but just voice your change of mind here. I tried to see if I could change it so a vote could be changed but haven't been able.
Now some important points came up and I've been checking into this and getting answers. First we can make it any color and when I chose these colors I figured in things like what is easy to read and on the eyes, actually googled to look for the best color and this is what I came up with, one can make the new forum any color they want.
Second of all I just found out by talking to another forum admin that it would be wise to take proboards suggestion and build what I call a mock forum with the new upgrade software. That way you can actually learn hot to this and how to that, build it to meet your desires then implement it when you change over. This allows you to read their how to's, ask how this how that and get a good feel of it so you can help members adjust to the new and old alike.
Not going to rush into anything. When looking at other forums with this try to see what you may like and may not because your input is important to me.
And yes Doug is got a lot of tweaking and things to do on his and he'll get there.

What do you mean about the Newest Threads and where is this newest thread section. I just cruised through from top to bottom and did not find such a section. I do know that every new comment in a thread gets marked with a NEW box just before the title. You idea of a new threads section sounds interesting but I have not seen it yet. UPDATE: Are you speaking of the NEW TOPICS that is listed above the forum? I guess I have never looked at that before. I only want to look at the 250 Chinese built things. Never needed to look further. Maybe why I never bothered with the NEW TOPICS list. . |

and dont go anywhere to often so when i start my pc 1st thing in the AM and ill open 10 of my fav places, forums etc
and just have it on. ill do this, do that, when i wanna i come look at well, what ever is interesting i click on the new topics button instead of refresh. every site im on has it and ive gotten used to it lmsao

again ur site bro, u do whats best for u & it I did just that in my post above. I guess you missed that comment when you posted. I have seen my welcome and new post note. I have also found the new topics button but probably never use it as I only go to Open Classroom discussion and the 250 Chinese stuff. If you think you are old then you should get rid of your scoot and get a real good walker to help you along. I am 79 and crowding 80 and wish I was as young as you. . |

Hey JR, Long time no see... Remember when you started this place and where thinking about other options besides Proboards. I fully support any decision you make. The Internets change weekly. Java/Flash/HTML5..... Looking forward to how this all works out my friends. (Keyword, BETA!!!) The community will decide what works in the long run no matter what PB does. VHS and Betamax at one time had a decision to make ..... Money made the decision over quality..... Good Luck !!!!!! |

Guys and gals I appreciate the input and like I said I'm not jumping into anything and I want all to know one thing also, this is no money thing for me. I have never nor have I any intentions of trying to make money on this forum. I do this for fun, the banner ads on the top with our preferred sponsors will tell you they don't pay a dime, we do a simple trade out, I put their ad banner up they put the Scooter Professor banner on their site. I have one vendor that could not put my banner up not because he didn't want to but because the site he uses doesn't have the means and to help he paid in the google ad fund to Proboards to keep them off, not a dime to me as a trade out. My thoughts is that proboards is going to eventually require a upgrade and if and when they do I'll let everyone know and in the mean time I can look at it and play with it to learn and not change or upset this board as it is. Myself my wife tells me all the time I live in the stone ages and I remind her that it was the good old days too.  JR |
