Linhai 260 1300km.year 2008/Linhai liner J in South Africa Scooter not used for 3 years and replaced water pump. My problem is that it cuts out while driving,no spark.Happened three times in 2 days.Once when the scooter was stationary for 1 hour. Next day it starts first time.Do I start eliminating the problem by replacing parts, and where do I start. First time on the forum Reon

well you can become a 'parts changer' but its better to find out why?
i am NOT a mech BUT id start with checking if your battery is holding a charge, then checking from the battery to the coil, and then CDI then stator.
But as i say im NOT a mech

...Scooter not used for 3 years... If the scoot has indeed been sitting that long, I would begin with a full inspection. Change all of the fluids. Drain and refill your fuel. Check and clean the spark plug. Clean the carb with a good quality cleaner. Replace the battery with a fully charged quality new battery. Pull off the clutch and inspect it for rust and sticky springs/pads. And, check for loose/broken connectors and frayed wires.

All top notch recommendations by both members Reon and welcome to the forum! This scooter is a DC powered type CDI and simply put means that if you have a weak battery that drops below 10.5Vdc the scooter will cut out. The CDI which feeds the coil for a good spark must have good DC voltage and again will not produce enough output voltage to the coil if it drops too low. Now with all the good suggestions the other members gave you I'll add to be sure and check the plugs into the CDI for good connection and no corrosion especially the black, 12Vdc feed wire. We're here to help and keep us informed. JR

If it starts as good as you say,and runs good for awhile ,I would check coil first, then the CDI.It sounds like the coil may be going bad,but I have seen the CdI do the same thing.Good Luck.
