Maybe someone out there can help me with this problem. It's no biggie but every once in a while my display driver will stop and then a little box opens up and this is what it says : ( Your Display Driver Has Stopped and Has Recovered Successfully Recovered ) . The computer will stop, then go blank for a second and then recover (screen back on ) and then give me this message .

The first step would be to make sure you have the latest video driver.
Right click on 'My Computer' and click 'manage'
In the left window, click 'Device Manager'
In the right window, select 'Display adapters', then find your video card in the list.
Right click on the selection, then select 'Update Driver'
Allow it to automatically search for the latest driver.
If the issue continues, post what CPU. video card, and Windows version, and we will look further.

Most people have only one display card or chipset so when you click on the display adapter the drop down will show only the one card. Click on that and then click on driver and then chose update driver and let Windows do the rest.

I think that going to the manufacturers site for help is a good idea. Most seem to have their own way of making things happen and therefore most likely to be able to fix.
I have had MS 7 on my lap top. I tried to follow the way expressed above and just could not follow the steps. To me, MS has taken a lot of simplicity out of their system and hidden it all in a number of panels that make it harder to find things. Prior to this level of MS there was a search box at the bottom of the screen and I could type in a command and get the history of the insides of the machine suddenly appear on the screen with several following screens telling about what was happening. Not so with this new level. I have had this level for over a year and find it very lacking in helping me do any corrections. One of my problems is when I try to find help I get lost in the choices of where to look and after a few tries of this then that or maybe here, I just get tire of it and quite. Now we have MS 8 available. Not sure I ever want to try it.
I used Linux for some time but now have given up on that too. There were several that I tried but only one I really liked, Xandros, as it was well packaged and the source had kept it up to date and had lots of applications that could work on it. Most of the Linux packages are not so well put together and it is necessary to keep going into the product and making changes to keep them going. I really never was happy with all that extra work.
Especially now with my aging problems of memory of how to do things. .

How do I find my " Video Card " ? Is it numbered or what ? Dell, Windows 7 Just did it again----AMD DRIVER STOPPED We'll need some more specific info, such as: -model number of your Dell, laptop or desktop? -Tell us more about your system by clicking the Windows Start Button and type msinfo32.exe in the search text box and press enter key . This should open up the System Information Dialog window that shows the complete info about your System . Copy and paste that info here. At this point, assuming you have a desktop, it sounds as if your Dell came with 'integrated graphics' which is a fancy term meaning the video is built into the motherboard rather than a swappable component. Manufacturers did this to save money for users that were only into everyday computing, not graphics intensive games or video editing. The older a PC gets, the more likely the driver software can be corrupted, and reloading or updating it usually does the trick. Let us know.

Since this will be stick I thought I'd chime in. I'm actually a head manager at a software company. If anyone needs PC help, just PM me. Been busy with the newborn and all, but I'll try and help out when I'm able. Sounds like we have others on here in the industry as well.

Well looks bad for the old computer of mine. Can't complain it's a 06 model and I've upgraded her at least 4 times but this evening we had a power fart and she wouldn't come back up. Opened it up and it fried the power supply. But I have two old but good HP computers and I pulled one out of one of them and got it running again but the entire desktop and files are gone and right now I've got a system recovery going on it. The screen says Windows is downloading files so we'll see? On my computer it takes over 4 hours to just run a virus scan because I have over 200k of files on it. I'm not worried about having all my files saved because I have a external hard drive that updates every 5 minutes so if I have to get a new computer I can recover all my stuff easy enough. Funny thing is I got Zachary a new HP notebook laptop for Christmas and had it programmed with lots of goodies and the Windows 8 package. When I buy I buy online from HP and call them and get free shipping and have a computer built like I want. I was just hoping to get old Santa paid off before I went computer shopping! On mama's computer right now, she's at work! JR
