saw this on the other forum and thought it would make a great daily double question for you Jr 04prixgt04 Clinician member is offline Joined: Oct 2012 Gender: Male Posts: 1 just got 1st scooter and im have light issues « Thread Started on Oct 26, 2012, 11:00pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I posted a few days ago on another forum about this the first day I got the bike. The head lights won't come on and the tail light only lights up when I hit the brakes. (brand new bulbs). The horn, blinkers, and hazzards work. (no dash lights except the blinker signal and the clock) I read online that some rectifiers come bad so i bought 2 and neither worked. I noticed that the plastic inside the nose is slightly melted right above the VR so I am positive that is the issue. I looked at the wires and they are all good. I called a local shop and they said I could bring it in for a dignostic fee of 65 (dont wanna do that cuz i know with yalls help i am capable) o run the head lights off the horn power wire and instal a 15 amp fuse. thats all good but what would I do with the tail lights? This sux. I called the seller and he gave me back $100. The bike only has 200 miles on it. The oil is super clean and and it starts up right away. (bogs down but im putting a new carb on in the morning) What should I do?? Thanx for ur input.. 2006 sunl adventure 150cc LB150T-12 Read more scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=55812 Read more: scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=150cc&action=display&thread=7097#ixzz2Ahc95RRp

Cool justbuggin! All I'm going to say until we can get the others to play along is that his tail light problem is obvious and a easy fix, and what he was told on dawg to do to the headlights will only result in melted wires and a dead battery. Now on the other site, you know the one with the Docs, all I can say is post a response to his request there and put this link there so the man can seek help, as of this posting he's had 27 looks, posted his request on Oct. 26 and not a soul has offered help. Man I'm sure glad the so called doctor (owner) is not trying to help me with my troubles! JR

No Richard this is a simple 150 scooter with the typical wiring configuration. Diodes typically are only used on DC type CDI systems. This is a standard AC system.
Justbuggin You're getting warm!

JR, what about a bad ground in the tail light area or a badly rusted sockets.

Richard this is a very strong possibility, could be one of or both. Also on all scooters in the tail section there will always be a male/female disconnect plug with the following color wire/s
Green = ground male to female orange = left turn signal light/blue = right turn signal yellow/green = brake lights yellow female side/ brown male side = tail lights. sometimes it's brown to brown because they tie the brown on near the R/R and yellow is the light feed wire.
Now he says that he has no tail lights unless he presses the brak handle? Could mean he only has a light when he presses the brake but he's unclear on that with his description. Remember the tail lights are only on if the scooter is running so if it's just the brake light alone then he has no pwer to the tail light side (brown wire) and it could be as simple as a broke wire? If the brake light is good and bright then this indicates a good ground wire.
But if the brake light is dim and the tail light side of the bulb comes on weakly then 9 times out 10 is a very bad ground wire. With no ground it's common for the bulb to back feed from the brake side of the bulb to the tail light side. Remember the tail light side is tied in with the yellow wire to the R/R which is hooked up to the stator and the final ending of the stator coils is GROUND.
Also a rusty socket base if it's metal will not provide a good ground. Lastly I know this sounds stupid but I've seen people put the 1157 bulb in wrong where the two soldier connectors on the end of the bulb are both touching the brake wire and tail light wire in the socket at the same time.

Well it is not his ground because he says when he squeezes the brake handle the Brake Lights come on. So his running Lights are out which is like JR said the Brown wire. Now on my Trike I have an OFF and ON switch for the lights as well as the instrument panel. One click left turns on my running lights, instrument lights and the little running lights above my headlights. One more Click and my headlights come on MOTOR NOT RUNNING just the KEY Turned to the ON position so everything is running off my Battery. Alleyoop
