100/60-10 vs 3.5/10? By prodigit (Read 7,494 times)

I bought this cheap Tao tao chinese 50cc bike, just for fun, and it has 100/60-10 tires on them.
I called the tao tao parts department to ask what tires fit on them, because I can only find 3.0/10 or 3.5/10 online, and the mechanic said that 3.5/10 are the ones that will fit.

Is there any difference between those tires (eg: my 100/60-10 tires are very wide, will I receive thinner tires with the 3.5/10 size)?

Also, which tire would be one size larger that could possibly fit?
(I'll have to measure clearance, but wanted to know which tire is a bit larger/wider).

According to calculation, a tire with a 1in larger outside diameter could get me upto 4MPH faster, a gain I definitely would want!

Now I'll have to remember the way to figure the 3.5/10 but here is how to figure the measurements on the 100/60/10 tire

100 div by 25.4 = 3.94" X 60% = 2.36" X 2 = 4.72" + 10" = 14.72"

3.94" = width
4.72" = height
14.72" = OD

So if you want to know if a larger tire will fit the main thing is to measure the distance between the crankcase and the present tire on there for clearance. I run bigger tires on my 250B so here is the measurements on a popular 10" tire:

100 div by 25.4 = 3.94" X 80% = 3.15" X 2 = 6.30" = 10" = 16.30" OD

So this tire would be a tad over 1-1/2" larger as far as the OD is concerned at 1.58". That's a lot!

Seems like the 3.5/10" tire is the same as a 100/90/10 tire.

So how does the calculation go for the "3.5-10" measurements?

If 4.0-10=100/100/10, and 3.5-10 = 100/90-10, then I need a 2.5-10 (100/100-10 divide by 4.0 times 2.5 = 62.5)?

A 3.50/10 = 100/90/10 in metric so with that knowledge and now how to convert it to inches you can see what is the largest tire your scooter will handle.

I also don't know why they told you a 3.50/10 was the same as a 100/60/10?
