Ok, new to this forum. I was getting major runaround and some bad advice at another forum, so this one was suggested to me.
My scooter quit running. I checked valves, checked for fuel flow, has new CDI, ignition coil/wire, and spark plug. Had a buddy help me with the volt meter electrical stuff and it seems that the stator is bad. Got a new stator but now I can't get the flywheel off. I tried a steering wheel puller but that did not work. I ordered one of the pullers that are made for these things, but I believe I messed up my flywheel with the steering wheel puller. Any suggestions on a flywheel? Anything I've found on ebay says it's for bigger scooters.

Welcome Ccortus, good to have you on the forum, and yes the experts on ELECTRICAL are on this forum. JR the owner of the forum is one of the electrical gurus and the other is Cruiser. Both of them guys know their electricals and how to test to find the culprits causeing problems. Why do you say you need a new stator? I am assuming you guys checked for SPARK and the Ground Wire(s) from the frame to the motor and Ground Wire from the Battery to Frame. And you tested for SPARK ON THE MOTOR and FRAME on both. Because if it SPARKS on the FRAME ONLY and not the motor it will not fire(which would mean bad GROUND FROM FRAME TO MOTOR). It could also just be the PICK UP COIL and NOT the STATOR itself. Yes we can find you a Flywheel, But if you can tell us the motor that is on there then we can find one for you. Is it a 139QMB, you will find the motor on the left side stamped on the motor case below the CVT cover. Alleyoop Here is just one place and you have to check the number of wires yours has There are a couple of version of it 2 or 3 wires. .racingplanetusa.com/alternator-rotor-version-p-6766-1.html?sessID=5253ab7e1a5d417f54939a17c2264369" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.racingplanetusa.com/alternator-rotor-version-p-6766-1.html?sessID=5253ab7e1a5d417f54939a17c2264369

Welcome to the forum! Alley is right let us know what engine she is and we'll help you get the flywheel off. Did your buddy check for voltage from the stator particualarly the black/red wire? Need to know the output on it and the blue/white pick up wire also. You measure them using the AC side of the multimeter. JR

Welcome to the forum, ccortus. When a scoot stops running the usual checks are for spark, fuel, and compression. It sounds like you are chasing a no spark condition as you are checking out the stator after replacing all the ignition components. Give us more info about your scoot (pics would be nice) and we should be able to give you some good answers.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I will check on the exact motor type next time I go to my buddy's place. He checked all the electrical and I trust him because he does avionics/electrical on business jets. I just do assembly stuff. I will ask him what readings he found that were bad on his fluke meter.
I found a new flywheel but am waiting on the puller. It's supposed to be here on Tuesday.
Basically my scooter is a piece of crap. I can change my profile picture to my scooter but it's somewhat embarrassing.

Ok. Changed out the stator and put a new flywheel on and it has spark and starts. New problem. I think either the camshaft or bearing (not sure how it's all put together) but while the scooter is running the flywheel spins slightly off center. I turned it off and quit running it. The magneto was melted because the flywheel was rubbing against it. Is this a major thing to fix or can it be done easily?

I think the Flywheel was not put on correctly. There is a Woodruff key on the crank that holds the Flywheel in the correct position. If the woodruff key moved out when you put on the Flywheel it might not have let the flywheel go in all the way on the crank and woodruff key. Alleyoop

I'm pretty sure it's on right. The key is in the proper place and the old stator was melted on one side and not the other, so the problem was there before. I noticed it making noise before but the noise was coming from the other side of the crankshaft. This time it was really bad, I think, because it was rubbing the stator whereas before the stator was slowly ruined by the problem getting worse and worse all the time. For the problem I think it is, is it a tear out the engine type of thing?

Oh, and there was a little oil under the stator.

It sounds like a bad bearing or bent crankshaft? Oil leaking would indicate either. If the bearing is so bad that the stator is wobbling then if you remove the flywheel you should be able to move the crankshaft by hand and feel slack. If so then it's time to tear her apart.

Ok. Think I might be looking to get me a new scooter then. The rest of the scooter is not nice enough to start dumping that kind of money into it. My scooter now is a 2008 sunny style scooter. I think the sunny style scooters are probably the cheapest ones out there. Any recommendations on scooters that will be reliable with maybe a little less maintenance required?
