Alright, I've searched everywhere (including here) and can't find anything that matches all my symptoms. So I decided it was time to finally ask for help.
First some information: Make: Jinlun Model: JL50QT-4 Problem: Last night I went to start the moped and the headlights didn't come on. I looked behind me and the tail light wasn't on either. I squeezed the rear brake and the front and the brake lights came on for both. I checked both turn signals and they both work front and rear. I turned the moped off and busted out the screwdriver. I checked the tail bulb first since it's much easier to get to, both filaments were intact. Next I checked both headlight bulbs and the filaments were intact in both. I checked (one) of the grounds that's near the rear of the scooter, it seemed well mounted but I removed it and re-seated it just in case. I'm sure there is more than one ground than that, but I have no clue where they are and can't find a service manual for this thing to save my life. So basically I'm at the end of my limited knowledge on mopeds and don't really know where to go from here (besides the shop, which is a last resort). I am relatively competent with electrical work I just need a direction. Any help is appreciated!
EDIT: Not sure if it's relevant, but I recently had the CDI replaced in this moped.

First of all welcome to the forum! OK you've done some good searching for things that help tell me what direction to take. To answer your question, no the CDI has nothing to do with the lights. Now do you have this scooter opened up so that you can see the wiring and regulator/rectifier (R/R)? The R/R should have four wires; red = charging to the battery white = stator AC feed to R/R green = ground Yellow = AC feed from stator to R/R Now the yellow also is the feed to the lights head and tail. You mentioned also a hot ground wire? All indications of very bad connections and it heating up. Got to locate your R/R and do you have a good volt meter? We need to make sure we got voltage out of the R/R when running and if so then it's a find the bad wire game. A lot of times they they go to brown form the R/R where it ties on the yellow to the dimmer switch and then on to the lights. Check this out and get back with me and we'll go from there. JR

Had the same problem to the tee. JR helped alot i bet your battery is not charging either. well i wired it up with the help of JR and got it charging and ran my lights off a toggle switch well this worked a while until one night a wire melted and shorted leaving me with no light so the next day i was fixing it and tugged on 2 wire's and they kept coming so i tracked them down and reconnected them and wa la lights charging batt whole nine yards so i undid all that me and JR had talked about for weeks and it still works like a charm today well it only has 230 miles but it still works and JR blocking diode is hooked up and working so just check your wires thats prob where it is. Mine is a 150cc jonway with a 11 pole stator
