hello All, my jonway has a new water pump and thermostat and STILL overheating RIGHTAWAY, i have 3 hose ports on my radiator, 2 on bottom side nexst to each other and the 3rd is on top left of radiator, what hose from where goes where on radiator??? thanks in adnvace any ACTUAL diagrams?

Since these are Chinese bikes, there is no real diagram for repairs other then the wiring. As for the three hoses, one is the feed to, the second is the supply from and the third is fed from the radiator cap.

You mentioned that there were two hoses on the bottom and one one the top? I'm not sure but on mine, I think that the two hoses are on the top. If your fan sensor is on the top, then the radiator is upside down.

If you are having problems with overheating, you might still have air within the system. You must burp the system and the best way I found is to disconnect the little hose next to the thermostat and add fluid through the fill cap until fluid comes out of the port. Reconnect the hose and fill again. After filling up until it does not take any more, start the bike without the cap on and wait until the level drops. Add more fluid till you can't add anymore. Install cap and you should be fine.

First of all Welcome to the forum! OK you said you got the YY250 and I'm just going to be sure this is your scooter. So many times these scooters get labeled one thing and are actually another engine or scooter. I borrowed so pics from fellow admin Cruiser because he does also have a YY250;



Is this indeed your scooter, the radiator sits behind the gas tank. If the radiator is in front of the tank then you've got a linhai like this;






Now here is another picture of Cruisers scooter;




In this picture you can clearly see the thermoswitch and the bottom of the radiator where it belongs and one of the top hose outlets which is going back to the right side of the engine. I know the water pump is on the other side of the engine so I'm saying this hose goes to the thermostat on the engine.


Now here is a picture of a radiator I found on a site that lists it as for the YY250;




You can see I labeled what I believe to be the correct hose outlets and if I'm wrong Cruiser will chime in here and correct it. The reservoir tank hose which is smaller hooks up on a nipple right on the neck of the radiator cap and not on the radiator I believe. Like I said in the picture two things were clear in the picture and to my knowledge the radiator cap fill line always hooks to the top of the radiator and the water pump pulls from the bottom of the radiator.

Now Scooteraddict hit the nail on the head about air in the system, it's a killer and will cause the system to act stupid.

Also I'm just curious, if you replaced the thermostat and the water pump all you had to do is hook up the hoses back to where they came from, no need to remove any hose from the radiator at all? How did this come to be?

Thanks again, the radiator was changed, how the hoses ended up being off.... but your pics does the job, and yes i have same bike as Cruiser. i will do adjustments when i get home

I'm sorry but the information told to you by people on your thread is not very accurate, one I know because I own this scooter and two some on that thread are just guessing.

The guy on professor, JR knows more about this scooter than anyone. He's an expert on the wiring and can tell you how to fix that also

Well I don't know about that? What is the problem now? Did you get the scooter running and cooling correctly? I go by the information you post here, if you get information from somewhere else then you'll have to decide if it works for you or not?

Yesterday I posted information for you to hook up your radiator correctly and you said thanks to Cruiser and myself and if you need help with a wiring issue then tell us what's the issue and we'll fix it for you.

There are a lot of 250 people here and they know what they're doing.

I think maybe trvstlh thought he was posting on the "other" forum and was trying to give someone some good info about this forum? He has been on the other forum posting about this problem. I mentioned JR's post to him which shows the YY250T radiator.

thanks for the info, finally i think i have it all set up correctly now, ran for 30 mins. yest. without overheating, 2 other questions for you.....whats the best battery to get? ACID INSERT, OR REGULAR??? also i have 6 wires coming off of ignition switch, could you help me reconnect these? i have alarm and remote start as well, i know to get the lights to turn on as if key is turned to on i need to connect the red & black (From harnes end, not from ignition switch side) wires together in order to start it, now if i connect the red to red and blck to blck this doesnt work

Hello there i have the jonway 250 (like Cruiser's) I've changed the radiator, thermostat, fan switch, etc. the bike still overheats, once running and coolant flowing, should ALL 3 hoses become a little warm/hot to touch?? could it be the HEAD GASKET?? if its the HEAD GASKET should i NOT have have other running issues? or it would run fine until it begins to overheat? thanks in advance

First of all I generally only give out a little advice on PM's and the reason is simple, with problems like yours it's better to put it out on the open forum so everyone can see it and offer help and some people have different times that they can login and and answer on questions. Myself I'm retired ( or I think I am) and I'm on the forum on an off all day, others work and only have small windows of time where they can help, others like to yak at night and sleep all day!

But on this forum there are a lot of guys who own the 250's even your scooter so it gives you a good chance of having success on getting your scooter fixed. But what I don't understand is the bouncing back and forth on forums, putting up a thread or even many threads about the problems with your scooter and then putting what you did in the open on one forum in a PM on another?

You want to seek advice in many places no problem but sometimes you find you get the same exact advice in both places. Sometimes you get different ideas at different places.

It appears you have multiple problems with this scooter, cooling and electrical? Can you give us some background on it? All information helps, it appears this scooter was either bought used by you and had these problems or someone has worked on it that didn't know what they were doing or both? Doesn't matter we can help you but you give us very little information other than what is wrong and don't inform us what you have really did or are doing?

To answer your question on your PM and your thread on the "other" forum now that you have said it is overheating again, did you burp it like I said too?




Everyone that owns this scooter can tell you that the burping process is a PITA and if it has one ounce of air it will run hot. Head Gasket? If you've got a blown head gasket it won't run right and you'll find oil in the water or water in the oil (milky oil) or both.

On your electrical issues you mentioned on the "other" forum I'll tell you this, we have a wiring diagram for this scooter, it was drawn by myself and Cruiser, it is correct unlike the diagram at the "other" forum. Cruiser and I along with others here know the electrical on this scooter and can help you with your problems, if you want to get advice at other places on the electrical by all means do so.

I'm not trying to sound rude but this has become very confusing the different posts at different places and we are glad to help but you need to help us help you.

Thanks for all the help JR, i post on both forums AND pm's just to try and get the quickest answer, if a problem i will no longer post in PM, thanks again for the help..i bought the scooter with the overheat problems and attempting to fix myself, had someone look at scooter and they had NO idea wut they were doing (pissed me off) the initial problem prior to me purchasing the scooter i THINK was them riding it without coolant, i replaced thermostat,radiator,and water pump, pretty positive hoses are run correctly, fan is turning on when temp. gauge is midway, so right now i was thinking the head gasket (but u said it would NOT run right) so maybe the burping of system will do it. how about bad radiator cap??? Most of the time if you're logged in when we give a link to this forum in the tech section it automatically goes straight to the link but the system we use or server is proboards and they have been having some issues lately so who knows. like Alley says just login again.

Also I wasn't saying to not PM me, not al all, my door is always open but even other people here especially new people will tell you that if they need a lot of information with a lot of problems like you have I ask them to start a thread so all members can see it and all people who are on or come on the forum can see it. Sometimes people with the very same issues as you can read, follow up and fix their scooter just by finding out what another person done. I am honored when people ask me what to do and always try to help.

I also understand the frustration of wanting the machine to run right and the part about being peed off, I really do.

Now to your problem again pull the oil dip stick, inspect it to see if the oil is milky looking, if so then yes you've got a blown headgasket. also see if you see any signs of oil when you take the radiator cap off.

The radiator cap, does it appear to be the original OEM cap or look like it's been replaced? The cap is rated at a certain pressure so if it's bad then lots of times it will leak and lose coolant.

Lets take one thing at a time, running hot, if you find no milky oil, no oil in the coolant then with all the new things you have put in if it's all correct then more than likely it's air in the system. Also I'll ask you these questions;

(1) are you sure you put the thermostat in correctly and not upside down/
(2) Did you inspect the thermost cover neck and where the thermostat goes in for build up crud and blockage, we had a member here nearly go bananas over this same problem, did as you did and then after further inspection found a bad build up blockage in this area, cleaned it up and all was fine.
(3) what kind of coolant are you using, it's recommended to use a good quality 50/50 premix coolant that is not harmful to aluminum block engines, I use Prestone 50/50 premix in the yellow jug.

I want to stress the air again, after looking at the burp directions you may have to do this several times, the key to know it's air free is when you remove the cap after the engine gets cold you will see nothing but coolant, if you have to add even a couple of tablespoons to fill it to the top of the raidator it had some air. Each time you add and let cool air comes out of the system.

Now the electrical issues we can resolve too but lets get her running cool and go from there. Also sometimes it's helpful to take pictures and I can assure you there are guys here myself included that know the wiring on this scooter wire for wire and we're here to help.
