This is a new problem that I have encountered since yesterday. The scooter will ride about a quarter of a mile then it will cut off.... I would characterize it "cutting off" like a slow decelleration then cuts off... when I give it gas, it acts like it is revving but it slowly kind of cuts off. I would compare it to when you leave the choke on on a weed eater or chain saw... Any clues as to what may be the problem?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. When you start it will it idle fine and it just does this when you take off?
You haven't got any bad gas anywhere have you?

I tend to agree with JR on this being a gas problem. It sounds like gas is getting to the carb but not enough to supply the needs of the engine. Make sure that the fuel filter is clean and gas flows freely when vacuum is applied to the fuel petcock. I'm assuming that the gas tank is higher than the carb. Also check the vacuum line feeding the petcock is in good shape and not leaking.

alrighty... here is what it will do... it will cut off... I have tried immediately cranking it after that and I get nothing. I twisted the throttle a few times and wait for a few... sometimes it will not turn over then other times it will but if I doesn't go to "full throttle" it will cut off, other times if I give it about a quarter turn on the throttle it will run a little bit and if I give it more it will cut off. This may also give you guys a little insight to the problem. I had been running it for about a week without the air filter (filter box still attached though), because I'm not sure if you remember, but I blew the crankshaft seal on it by putting too much oil in it and it backed into my air filter box. I was soaking and cleaning the filter and letting it dry in this time. I then went home for 2 weeks and wasn't driving the scooter at all. When I came back, this is when I was having the probs with the scooter. I have thought about cleaning the carb because I was thinking that might be the problem, but I have never done that before and it has quite a few tiny parts. I can't get to the auto parts store to get carb cleaner because my scooter right now is my only form of transportation, and we are having quite a bit of a heatwave here in eastern NC. the usual 8 mile round trip walk is a bit difficult to do in this kind of weather haha **Here is what it did today when I took it out to get a good explanation of what it is doing for you guys. -When I initially pushed the starter... didn't turn over. -Then I kept trying to crank it a few time about 10 seconds at a time and got nothing. -Then I cranked it once more and it turned over for just a second or so... when I tried to give it gas it conked out. twisted the throttle a few times and waited for about half a minute -After a couple of rounds of it doing that it finally cranked, and did fine idling at the end of the drive and me accelerating to full speed for about a quarter mile and then it started "sputtering" and when I would give it gas it would kinda jerk for a second... and then it would cut off. -Then I pretty much repeated the same process to get back haha :  it cut off about right when I got back to my driveway |

petcock? where is that located and what is its purpose? as for bad gas, it is the same gas I have always used at sheetz. I haven't put any gas in from a gas container or anything that may have gotten water in it

Well I drained the tank and put new gas in it. What should I do from this point? my next train of thought is to check these 2 gadgets in this picture next. I think (A) is a gas filter? and (B) is the petcock? As for what to check or troubleshoot, I have no clue  |

I just got done cleaning the carb. it wasn't really dirty in the first place but I followed the directions from one of the videos on the site for cleaning a carb. It is still doing the same thing. Not turning over at all now. and it wasn't earlier today before and after I drained the gas from the tank and refilled it.

You are correct on both and the filter looks a little dirty, any good gas filter from a lawn mower shop, ebay or a auto parts similar will do, just make sure it fits the hose. The petcock is easy to check. Remove the fuel outlet line going to carb and don't worry no fuel will come out if it's OK because it needs vacuum from the engine to open and let fuel flow. After taking off the fuel outlet line place it in a clean clear jug of some sort and then remove the vacuum line from the end where it hooks up and apply vacuum and see if you have good gas flow. Alrighty... well sucked on the vacuum line from the petcock, pushed the starter, gave it gas, and nothing came out of the fuel line from the petcock. So is the petcock broken? can it be repaired?

Well growing up... we had four wheelers that had the manual fuel valve on it and we never had a problem that I can ever remember with that valve with the three that we had. My stepdad still has his honda and it is 15 years old. Never had to change a fuel valve. I might go with the manual one. But if I do, what do I do with the vacuum nipple from the engine that connected to the vacuum line on the petcock valve?

Get the Vacuum one, unless you have easy access to where it is mounted so you can just reach in there and turn it off and on then you can get the manual one.
If you do get the Manual one then you have to PLUG the Vacuum hose Currently going to the Vacuum petcock.

Anything that fits tight and won't leak a bolt or screw works fine.
