Hi, I've recently replaced my piston, cdi and exhaust with a new 50cc piston, sports cdi and technigas exhaust. Only problem is my bike wont start it sounds like it wants to start and ive tried adjusting the air screw and the fuel screw but still no joy. Does anyone know the correct setting for the air screw? as far as I know its 2 and a half turns out??? I've know idea about the fuel screw setting, well at least I think its a fuel screw! Its got a big slotted head on it? Any help would be much appreciated, I will post a picture soon. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kaiser, One thing you can do is SQUIRT a little bit of gas down the INTAKE and it should fire, if it does then you know it is NOT sucking gas down into the INTAKE.
The other thing are you sure you TIMED it right?
Is this a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? If its a 4 stroke did you adjust the valves when at Top Dead Center? If not bring it up to TOP DEAD CENTER and set the Valve gaps to .004 inchs BOTH of them. And yes it should start with 2 - 2 1/2 turns out if it is getting gas and it has compression and your getting spark. I would try the OLD CDI the new one may be bad it does happen. Alleyoop

Thanks for the reply alleypop. I took the airbox off and squirted some starter fluid and it starts for a couple of seconds and then cuts out? I've checked the compression by taking the spark plug out and putting my hand over the port and it feels good and ive also tested the spark plug by earthing off the frame and that seems good too. Do you think its something got to do with it not getting enough fuel considering it started on the starter fluid? Thanks. p.s its a 2 stroke.

First thing is YOU ALWAYS TEST for Spark ON THE MOTOR NOT on the FRAME. It may spark on the frame but if the MOTOR does NOT have a good GROUND TO FRAME CONNECTION it may not SPARK WHEN IT IS IN THE MOTOR.
Well it appears it is not getting fuel into the intake since it fired up when you squirted fuel into it. Do you have a Gravity Fed system or Vacuum Petcock.
If your carb has the Throttle cable going into the top center of the carb it should have TWO adjustments. The BIG CENTER SCREW on the Carb is the IDLE SPEED SCREW turning that Clockwise will raise the IDLE, Counter Clockwise will lower the IDLE.
Now if there is a SCREW to the RIGHT OF CENTER that is an AIR RATIO MIXTURE SCREW CLOCKWISE RICHENS the mixture(actually cuts off air) and Counter CLOCKWISE LEANS the mixture(ALLOWS MORE AIR).
Now if there is a SCREW to the LEFT OF CENTER that is an FUEL RATIO MIXTURE SCREW Clockwise LEANS it and COUNTER CLOCKWISE RICHENS IT. Alleyoop

set the air mixture screw to 2 and a half turns out and drained all of the gas from the bike and put in new fuel and the engine is running fine now thanks... new problem though, it doesnt appear that all the power is going to the back wheel, its maxing out at 40kmh, i did change the variator and the clutch springs so i think this is where the new problem is. i removed the crankcase and turned the bike on and the variator and the clutch are spinning when i rev the bike and the back wheel does spin but when i sit on it and rev i the engine revs up but the bike doesnt pull as it should. do you have any suggestions?

GREAT!! that it is now running for you, Now it appears the CVT may need some looking at and checking. When your riding and given it throttle I would guess the rpms are not climbing to good. So it could JUST be that the Weights are TO HEAVY and not allowing the RPMS to climb. For Speed you need RPMS to turn the Variator faster and the right set of ROLLER WEIGHTS. If you go to HEAVY which probably your weights are the motor will not produce good enough rpms.
So Take the Variator off and find out what gram weights are in there, I would guess from what your saying they will be 7-8 gram weights and you would do better with 4-5 gram weights. Alleyoop

Hey Keisermadra! Glad it's coming together. Do you have a owners manual for this scooter? If so I would appreciate it if we could figure out how to copy it?

Hi Alleyoop, Sorry for my delay in responding, I've only recently got a chance to look at the scooter again. I put lighter rollers in and it is now maxing out at 50kmh. I done some research and apparently the engine I have is heavily restricted. .taffspeed.co.uk/page76.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.taffspeed.co.uk/page76.htmlNext thing I plan on doing is buying- 70cc kit, bigger main jet for carburettor, carbon fibre reed valve petals, performance air filter, clutch and gears. I'm determined to get this to go quicker! JR, unfortunately I dont have a manual for this but I do have manuals for a Yamaha X-max 250 and First generation Yamaha BW's (Zuma) if your interested?

Fantastic!! you got it crank much better with lighter weights. But if you still want more speed it needs more POWER and to get more power you need a bigger piston so your on the right track. Alleyoop
