Now you may have hit on something there? The spring shouldn't have anything to do with the clutch movement. But if the clutch needs a good cleaning and new grease then that's why it is so stiff and could also be the answer to the belt shredding.
Take it apart, clean it up and put a fine coat of lithium grease on the shaft and see if this allows for a better movement when trying to open it up by hand.

Ok finally got the belt lubed the clutch it moves easier put belt on took for test drive. The clutch felt like it was slipping brought it back home took cover off now i only took it out for maybe a half mile but the belt was really hot, looking at the clutch shoes they look really smooth.I got 7 more days till i can buy new clutch shoes I hope if i take it easy i can get the 10 miles to and from wok till then as i cant afford 20 bucks a day to get to work. would the shoes slipping in the clutch break a belt?

The slipping causes a lot of heat which in turn would not be good for the belt. You can roughen up the pads with some rough sandpaper, also hit the inside of the bell with the sandpaper that should get you by for a couple of hundred miles or so. Alleyoop
