I just want to make sure to do it right the first time, so i don't have to worry about this again.

you need to tap it in , when I have done this the crank was not inplace . I used a scocket over the seal and tapped it in with a hammer . You might try several washers then a deep socket or piece of pipe 3/4 or 1 inch with washers .

can I use the impact wrench to tighten the nut back on the crankshaft or do I have to have a torque wrench? if so, how tight do I need the nut?
