Been around these forums for a long time now and it seems people are so quick to fuss or even condemn the on line scooter dealers.
Don't get me wrong for sure there are scam artists out there, can testify myself. My first two scooter purchases were from a now long gone dealer named Alite Scooters. At the time they were based in Oklahoma and I found out later they had just moved and changed their name from Kansas.
Luckily for me I got two good scooters and after waiting 6 months got the body parts that was damaged in shipping replaced but man it was a hassle!
The only real thing that made me mad is when they did pull up shop and boogie is they had $150 of my money for the lifetime warranty crock they advertised.
But live and learn and other than that I can't complain.
But here's what gets me about parts only people. To me it seems you just don't see too many complaints about the ones who sell stuff like generic parts they fit most of the Chinese stuff out there.
Now we all know that the Chinese copy stuff and I don't say that lightly. Heck you can take a body panel off of a so in so scooter and it'll fit that so in so scooter with a totally different name and so on.
But some of the generic stuff is just a plain crock! Especially wiring harnesses.
What also makes me angry is seeing people who know little or nothing about a scooter or electrical buy these and when they get them it's not only the "oh it'll just plug in crap like the seller stated" it's no where near what was on the scooter.
Then there's the we don't take electrical parts back BS and the buyer is stuck with trying to make it work or of course on a friendly forum saying help!
Now again in fairness to the seller there are lots of scooters that will use the same harness but to me if you're going to sell the generic crap then you need to know some basics about what you're selling like;
Is you R/R in the front behind the headlights or near the back in the engine area?
Does your scooter have a fuel and volt meter guage?
Do you have one or two head/tail light bulbs?
Perfect examples are the R/R, some scooters especially the 50cc ones have the R/R mounted up front and yet you see sellers who sell one to people who don't know with the it's generic, it'll just plug right up! Yea right! ;D
There are others but this is just one of them. Then what happens sometimes people find a forum and start trying to figure out how to use this generic harness or part and in some cases the vendor may even be a member of that forum but they seem to never be around when the person they sold the part to is in trouble.
Sounds just like some of these dealers doesn't it?
Don't get me wrong there are psrts people that just like the good dealers that will go the second mile to help people and those are the ones you see also lots of time donating their time to help people on forums or on the phone and in some cases helping people who didn't even purchase the part from them.
These are the people who need support in today's market and hard times. But I wish the parts dealers that don't know squat just like some of these dealers that don't know anything would just disappear and leave things to people who do know what they're selling and do care about their customers.
Oh well until they do we'll just keep trying to help folks in every way we can and just like me they'll know that sometimes you just have to live and learn.
