So here is the situation... couple weeks ago, my lever and shaft splines on my kick start were stripped... after tightening the ever living hell out of the pinch, I got a few more starts out of it, but they were both stripped out after that.
So my logic was... drill a hole through the shaft and lever, since I will need to get a new shaft and lever anyway, and put a bolt through it... 4 broken bolts later... I decided to put an Allen wrench through it and it worked just fine for a few days until the kick start lever literally broke at the hole that I made and warped the newly drilled hole through the shaft.
So what parts will I need to replace?
Next question is more about the theory on how a scooter works... if a scooter kick starts without a battery and runs just fine... does that mean the stator is working ok? my guess is yes because what other source of power is there... please let me know if I'm correct in this assumption. I'm replacing a regulator when it comes in the mail and I'm curious to know if I fried my stator as well.
BTW... this is a 50 cc chinese scooter

Shawn the stator is fine or it wouldn't kick start. This is a AC powered CDI system and needs no battery to run. The battery is for the accessories, horn, turn siganls etc and for using the electric starter.
You don't need the R/R hooked up at all to start it with the battery if the battery is fully charged which you can do with a trickle charger. The R/R is for charging the battery, plain and simple.
The CDI is fed Ac through the black/red wire to it and we both know the scooter runs fine after you warm it up.
Kick stater replacement = new shaft and kick start lever which is easily replced when you remove the CVT cover.
If you have a hot battery you don't need the kick starter at all.....but if the old battery goes dead it's nice to have.

if you have a GY6 150cc scooter i have this kick start assembly. i can throw in a free kick lever. scooterelements.ecrater.com/p/13968409/kick-start-assemblyAlso i ran my scooter without a battery for almost a year always using the kick start and never had a problem. i ended up getting tired of kick starting it so i bought a battery lol.
