I put every thing back together and did the tests. I am getting 65Vac from the red/black wire coming from the stator while cranking the motor over. With all the wires hooked up and the plug in the head with the wire on it, if I get my finger close to the plastic spark plug boot it shocks me at the plug boot and at the handle bars, I don't even have to touch it just get close to it and it bites me. With the red wire from the CDI unhooked from the coil hot wire the shocking stops but of course the plug doesn't fire either. All grounds are fine, I say all, there are only 3 grounds 1 from the battery to the engine block, 1 from battery goes into the wire harness and 1 from the engine block to the frame. I added the one from engine to frame when we where doing the harness.

Holy crap, can you believe this thing quit on me again. It was running great and then just died and will not start. I got it back to the house and checked it out. The first thing I noticed was the green light on the CDI was blinking very weakly when cranking it over, I had to turn the lights out to see it at all. So I decided the new CDI had gone out and ordered another one just like it. The wire colors were a little different. The orange wire is now red and the red/white is now white/red. I pulled the plug to check for spark, it has spark but shocks the shit outta you, even holding the plastic plug boot it shocks you pretty bad and it is shocking you at the handle bars as well if I am touching the bars or brake lever, Its like it scattering spark. I pulled the engine cover off and found that my cooling fan was in pieces. I was checking ohms to see if there is a short and found that I am getting a reading (maybe 7 ohms) when I touch the red/black wire from the stator and ground it to the frame. I then did the same check on the original stator on the bench and had no reading when touching the red/black wire and grounding it to the stator plate. So I pulled the new stator and checked off the scooter and did have an ohm reading when I grounded it to the stator plate (again around 7 ohms). I can not see any obvious damage to the stator or any wires. Could the exciter coil have shorted out internally since this is where the red/black wire connects ? So I am thinking I may have a direct short some where. I then did a few checks to see if I could find it by checking the ohms on some hot wires to ground, I had the battery unhooked when I did this. I found that the hot wire to the starter was pegging the meter, so I unhooked it from the starter and it stopped so I checked it at the spade connector where the hot wire hooks up coming out of the starter and when I touched my ground lead to frame it pegged the meter. Is this normal or is there a short in my starter ? It works like is is supposed to. The scoot has compression , it is getting fuel and it has spark but will not start. As you can guess I am lost in the fog again and need your expertise, I hate electrical problems and am sick of working on this thing, please help.

The stator was pretty much plug and play the flywheel ID was much larger bore at the crank than mine so I had to use the old one. I have learned so much about hooking up CDI's from you that I was able to hook it up. Now if I can just tune the CVT. Here is what the scooter looked like when I started.

It Lives , YEE HAW !!!! First things first, a big thank you goes out to JR , without who's help I may never have gotten this thing running. And thanks to alleyoop and justbuggin2 for their help also, and Scrappydog who took really good care of me. Now I need to do some tuning on the CVT. I have 5g sliders and a 1500rpm torque spring. It takes off good but in my opinion shifts to soon, about the time it gets into the power band it shifts. It doesn't just dog out but it quits pulling hard. I am thinking a 2000rpm torque spring , but I am guessing. Any thoughts on were to start tuning the CVT ? I will try to post some pics of the scoot in the next few days.

Just for Shits and giggles I thought I would post a few pics of the Golf Cart I built a few years back, we drive this in the subdivision where we have a place over on Ky. lake.I found this thing in a junk pile. It was driven into a pond where it sat for 8 months under water. Motor had a hole in the case where she sucked water and threw the rod through the block. It has a 6 inch lift long travel front end with coil over nitrogen filled shocks , Liquid cooled V twin Kawasaki engine, high performance Comet clutches 1 1/16 drive belt , 1500 Torque spring, floor shifter , steering column mounted ignition switch, and you can see a lot of the stainless and diamond plate goodies, stereo, neon lights underneath, 12 in. ITP wheels with knobby tires and a lot of other stuff. Hope yall get a kick outta it. I know this is a scooter forum, but while waiting on parts I thought I would do a little show and tell lol.

I am convinced that the new 6 wire CDI was defective from the factory. I believe we had our wiring correct, but as hard as they are to find I feel better changing over to the more common 5 wire setup. Are the Stator and housing that I ordered the correct ones to get this thing running ? Is the R/R on my scooter the one we need ?

I called Curtis Parts and after talking with them I ordered the new stator and housing. Now we wait some more.

No sir. The stator coils have an offset in the ID and the plate has a recess so the coil can only bolt in one way. the plate only has two bolt holes as does the engine case, so it can only go in one way also. the pickup does have slots so that the gap between the pickup and flywheel can be adjusted, but it is the only piece that has any kind of adjustment.

Good morning JR, I hope you are having a wonderful day. I have those measurements for you.
OD of the stator coil is: 79.71mm ID of the center hole of the coil is: 27.65mm Center to center of the two bolt holes of the coil is: 37.85mm Shaft ID of the magneto flywheel from the smallest point (outside)is: 11.80mm Shaft ID of the magneto flywheel from the largest point (inside) is: 14.65 My measurements are probably not exact but real close, its been awhile since I have used a digital caliper.
I would like to use the new 5 wire CDI that I already have because it is unlimited if we can. I think because of the poor quality of the new coil I will get a new Bando or Hoca performance coil.

Well this just keeps going from bad to worse. Now the new CDI seems to have completely crapped out. It wont even tingle my finger now. JR, if you will tell me what and where to buy the new stuff to change this thing over to a standard configuration like most 1E40QMB's have. I have given up on this setup, and am ready to buy all new components to convert this thing over. 5 or 6 wire I don't care. 5 seems to be the more standard setup, but which ever you think best is what I will go with. hopefully it will be a plug and play operation then. I'm done trying to figure out how to make this one off bastard of a wiring nightmare run, which seems to be the issue. Lets just set it up like every other 2 stroke 1E40QMB powered scooter out there and then we know whats what. Or at least you will, I am having an information over load and am truly lost in the fog on this now. I wish this had done it and I know that you have put in hours researching this and I appreciate every thing you have done to help me. But I think we should now call this a dead horse and move on. Your thoughts ?
