Thanks guys,
Update , I put the battery on a tender and it charged up to 100% , I did not trust it and took it to have it load tested and it came back BAD. now I`m wondering if this is the reason for the low readings at the battery that i`m getting. I will get a new battery tomorrow and see what i get for readings then . Hopefully this is the trouble , if not I will continue trouble shooting as per your suggestions. Thanks again

Hi guys, I had to put the bike on ice since last summer but here I am again with the same issue (not charging) I had in this thread. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/thread/3202/jonway-yy250t-chargingLast year I had taken the bike to the guy I got it from for this issue and he royally screwed me. charged me 300$ for a stater (i do have the old one) and regulator and gave it back to me after having it for 2 months and said it was fixed and a few days later it died. tried to do what i could with the help I got from the other thread myself but no luck and also I have limited tools and I am disabled which really limits the amount of bending and stooping I can do. So I saved up some money and found a new mechanic that seemed to know what he was doing, at least more honest than the other guy. This new guy had it for 3 days and told me that the original guy charged me for a regulator but never installed it so he got me a new one (I have the old one this time and could tell by looking at it that it was way old) , installed it and brought it back to me. Same damn problem, battery quickly died. So i put a multimeter on the battery and got 12.6 at idle. Cranked up the rpm`s and actually got a drop in voltage down to 12.09 . I am really stumped now. called the new guy and he is going to come get it and give it another go. My question is what on earth could be wrong with this thing??? please keep in mind I have limited knowledge on this subject and wiring diagrams look like Chinese to me. What im looking for are a few suggestions that I can give as to where he should start trouble shooting next. I am really starting to believe that there is not one person in western North Carolina that know how to fix these things. thanks, dave

Thats what I thought. If you mean LED headlights, i dont. Is it hard to switch over or can you just plug them into existing sockets? When I get a chance and some warmer weather I will pull off the panels and check the grounds. Hate doing that, it`s a major pain on this scoot, I have been tempted to leave them off and just ride around on the open frame. Might even help with my cooling problems. Also I used to get an e-mail notice when some one responded to a post but I no longer do. I was wondering why?

OK, finally got a chance to take another look. I was using an analog multimeter before so I went and got a digital one. The readings were jumping all over the place and I was wrong about the reading at the fuse box. It appears to be the same as at the battery. Now , I appear to be getting about 12.7 at the batt in idle. dropped back to 12.5 when the fan kicked on (which I think is coming on way before it should but thats another issue). I managed to get a reading of about 13.1 at the battery with the engine revved, no fan and about 12.6-7 when the fan came on. This is actually a little better than I thought but still seems kinda low and right on the border of not being enough. What do you think? Also it looks like I will have to disassemble the panels to get to check the batt ground so I did not get to do that.

Thanks JR, It`s raining today but I will check again at the fuse box to see if I was touching the one going to the headlights. I will also try to check that ground although my mechanic said it was good, I dont really trust him unfortunately.

Hi guys, have not been on here for a while but here I am again with a new electrical problem. Long story short, 300$ , a new stater and RR and I`m still not charging and my mechanic is at a loss as to how to troubleshoot any further. Volt meter at the battery reads 12.7 with engine revved. When the fan kicks on it drops to about 12.5. My knowledge in this area is very limited but i noticed when i took a reading at the fuse box under the seat I was seeing over 14 volts. Is there some way to jump from the fuse box to the battery so that it`s getting a charge? Thanks for any help,

Will do JR , as soon as I can get back to the cooling issue I will snap some pictures while it`s apart. It will be interesting to to find out how this thing is jury rigged together.

Hi guys, Havent had a chance to get pictures between work and all the rain we are getting here now but hopefully soon. Fairweasel, I cant say for sure but from the looks of the bike next to your name it looks to be identical. But in much better shape than mine. New development in the bike of a thousand mysteries! Forgot to mention, while this was all going on I had no headlight or taillights. I could however flash the high beams by hitting the passing switch although they would not stay on. I did , however, have break lights and turn signals. We finally tracked it down to a bad light switch and by jumping the connector we got my lights back. Now back to the new mystery. as you recall after plugging in the wire running to the RR the bike would no longer shut off with the key. Today I installed the new switch. Works fine and I have lights ,high and low, back. ALSO , the bike now shuts off with the key! Tested it several times to make sure and works every time. Now the bike is charging , everything is working as it should. Go figure Maybe now I can get back to the running hot problem.

Hey Cruiser , that looks to be the exact fan the mechanic put on there. will have to check when it`s apart to see if it`s blowing in the right direction. From looking into the neck under the rad cap I really can`t see any noticable movement other than the rising and falling of the level. So are you saying Without the thermostat I should see an actual current of moving coolant swirling around? If thats the case maybe im looking at a waterpump issue as well? Where will this ever end?

Hey JR, man my head is spinning with all this. Don`t have time right now before work to get into it and it may be the weekend before I can, but we will take many pictures of the guts of this thing. Should have done that from the start. Yes,that picture in the link looks to be almost the exact same bike minus the muffler and Roketa labels. My bikes been repainted a couple of years ago after a wreck but I dont recall it saying jonway on the outside, only on the plate under the seat does it say jonway. to be exact it says jonway 244cc yy250t-2. engine family 7jnyc025nfg , evap family 7jnye0100nfg. don`t know if that helps or not. When I bought the bike it was the only 250 he had, he deals in mostly 50cc. He claimed he ordered it for a woman who changed her mind at the last minute and gave me a little off the price. It appeared to be brand new with just a few miles on it. Only thing he said he did to it was change out the Chinese fluids, checked all the bolts ect... I don`t believe he made any kind of modifications to it. can`t say for sure but I believe there was 3 green wires attached to the surface of the RR to one of the face screws. Again, pictures will be worth 1000 words which we will do first chance I get. Also still super qurious as to why after hooking up the remote did the battery suddenly start charging again .Thats really got us puzzled What are your thoughts on that? Thanks again...

Thanks again JR, we will look into this and I`ll strip it down again. may be a few days but maybe i can snap a couple of pictures too. starting to think it would be easier and cooler to leave the body off, remount the seat and just ride around on the frame. ;D

Thanks JR, we will look into this further. Question, does it matter that my scooter is a yy250t-2 not just a yy250t and what is the difference?

Hey JR, again thanks for your patience and help. I would love to take this thing to a good mechanic if I could find one and afford it but alas I`m on my own with the exception of scootforfuns help which has been invaluable but we are reaching the limits of his knowledge as well. To be honest I would not know how to do a compression check however I changed the oil a couple of weeks ago and checked it today and it looks clear and clean. So basically you agree with scootforfun in that the old fan is blocking airflow to the radiator? And that plus the lack of the thermostat is what you believe is causing the high temps? I`d really hate to tear that thing apart again but if I have to I will. Like I said , had I gotten to read your post before I was almost rebuilt I would have replaced it but we were so close to being reassembled I thought we`d give it a try. I did order one after I read it just in case. looks like i`ll need it after all. Also , i`m curious about the water pump. when I look under the radiator cap i can`t see an actual flow of coolant . should I be able to? However the level does go up and down. Of course this could all be a moot point if I cant get the electrical problem figured out. Starting to look like next summer before I get back on the road.

Ratts... why cant anything be easy? This is all way beyond my level of expertise. I don`t have a remote. I`m going from memory here so I may be off but the plug we hooked up was a 3 prong 3 wire , 2 greens and a white or yellow I believe ,I could be wrong. but it fit perfectly and seemed to be dangling near each other.one of them coming directly off the RR. What I don`t understand is why the batt now shows the proper charging on the volt meter? We did see the blocking diode you spoke of but did not get that far since we connected the plug first. I don`t want to do anything dangerous or damage the bike so does that mean i`m back to a bad RR, stator or blocking diode again? It may be a few days before I have the chance to work on this again. Also forgive my ignorance but just what is the CDI and where is it located? Thanks again.
