Alley, I am in Connecticut and its cold here also. I put my bike up for the winter and the most important thing I do is to drain all of the gas from the tank, lines and carb. Gas is formulated with ethnahol(sp) which quickly deteriorates and leaves a sticky residue on everything including carb jets. What you are seeing might be a residue on the jet and its seat that is closing the effective jet size and causing a lean run. Opening up the jet (turning it counterclockwisw) will increase the opening and will allow the engine to run richer.
Even tho you run it each week consider adding a fuel stablizer to the gas to help eliminate the problem.
