i thought u needed a ground that way or scoot wouldnt start.

Thanks for the welcome terrilee! No, you can start these motors on the bench with just a battery. but some bikes may ground ignition via the frame. This thing has a beefed up electrical system. Needs it for all it's accessories, wiper and washer motors, cd player, cig lighter, etc., all the creature comforts, and there's a good chance I'll be using all of those at once, well maybe. So thus my desire to make sure it's robust and tight. And of course, I may add those neon ground effect lights later. I guess I'd have to buy some hip hop CDs then. And maybe karaoke! Make sure where you ground it that it is clean and paint free. JR Yeah, I'm all over that. Ok, just picked up a fat strap from the tractor store. It'll do the trick I think!

Hi, first post here.....
I'm rebuilding the body work on a 2006 Diamo Velux, 150cc GY6, which was not particularly well treated by it's DPO. While I had the body panels off I thought I'd tear into its electrical issues. Nothing too serious, just a lot of nitpicky stuff like remote start not working, bad lamp sockets, etc.
But what I noticed is that there is apparently no ground strap connecting the engine to the frame. Now. I do have a good ground, I measured a healthy 0 ohms between the starter motor bolt and the steering tree, so I'm not complaining. But it must be grounding through the harness. There is a lead from the bat negative terminal to the valve cover bolt, but nothing else. Nothing going to the frame. The whole system seems to tie to that single ground lead, which is not very big.
The only device on the bike that bonds directly to the frame is the radio. They grounded that to the horn mount. Makes me wonder that might be deliberate to keep frame and engine ground separated, for noise maybe? Can't imagine that would be too useful. And I do have good continuity between frame and engine, problem is I don't know where it's coming from! Maybe just the washers on the hanger bushings? So I'm wondering if the safe thing to do is add a good robust strap between the engine and frame. Couldn't hurt, right?
