Have been wanting to hop up my 2009 Ice Bear PST150H Trike and decided to do it. I searched for local shops here in the state of Illinios that would bore out the case and nobody would. They would just slap in a 61mm but no boreing for a bigger one.
As it happened JIM is a B&M shop in Wisconsin known as RAPIDREPAIR saw my post and emailed me that he would do it.
So I asked for his adivice on what to get, he suggested the 62mm BBK and if I wanted a little more a 60mm Stroker Crank that would bring my 149.6cc motor to 182ccs.
So I told him to go ahead an order it and he got the BBK but he could not find anyone that had a good 60mm Stroker Crank. I then googled and found some but they were CHINA Made with no markings and I did not want to put in a possible problem child. I finally found that MOTORI TEC had it and it was a TWAIN piece with good bearings and it was marked. So I ordered it and it came within 3 days. I wanted to have it done over the winter but RAPIDREPAIR is 400 miles north of me and that is a 7hour drive and the weather kept me from taking it sooner.
Then I tried to find a transporter that had reasonable rates but they all wanted $500.00 to drop it off and it would cost me another$500.00 to go and pick it up. So I rented a Motorcycle Trailer for $14.95 a day and rented it for two days. My Brother-in law has an HYBRID SUV with a 2 inch hitch and we made the 400 mile trip to RapidRepair up at the top of Wisconsin. The one way trip cost me $250.00 and that included Hotel, Gas and Food, the SUV since its a HYBRID gets 30miles to the gallon which helped keep the cost down.
I brought a sh!t load of brand new stuff that I was going to eventually put on myself but since he would have to tear the entire motor apart I brought the stuff just in case he needed them.
1. Two Really Good Fuel Pumps
2. A brand new 24mm Carb with 135 Main Jet and 38 Pilot Jet installed attached to a performance Intake a stack and a K&N filter.
3. New performance CDI and Coil
4. Some new Spark Plugs for testing and a Iridium plug
5. New Cam Chain Tensioner
6. Good hose clamps
7. Main Jets from 115-130
8. Pilot Jets 40-42
9. Break Pads for front and back
10. A Uni Filter just in case
11. Header Flange Gaskets
12. 16/37 Taller Tranny Gears
13. NCY Performance Clutch
14. NCY Performance Bell
Jim finished the Project of boreing out my 149.6cc CY6 157QMJ motor and installed the 62mm Big Bore Kit and a 60mm Stroker Crank and installed the Taller 16/37 Gears. Also during the tear down it was found that my Tranny had a support Bearing missing on the Clutch side for the Main Drive Shaft. Some of you may remember that WILDMAN's -11 Trike broke down due to the missing bearing and cracked the left side case by the missing bearing and ruined his gears. So Jim also ordered the bearing and put that in as well.
I already had a Performance CDI and Coil on as well as an Iridum plug that is what I was running with. Well he slapped on my new Carb setup and it started right up but it was to fat. So since it was running really good with the Current Setup he just took the Setup off and put on my Orginal Carb setup and put on the Stack and K&N filter on that. It started right up but was to Lean giving it any throttle I think the Main Jet was 107 or 110 NOT MARKED of course. He already knew the 135 was to much so he tried a 127.5 and that was also to FAT it would pop giving it throttle. So he went down to a 120 and no more popping and ran strong but he said that was on the Lean Side and he did not want to take a chance so he put in the 125. The 125 is just a little Fat but better a little on the Rich Side than Lean. He said a 22 or 22.5 would be perfect but to run it with the 125 for the break in.
Jim also tried the NCY performance Clutch but he did not like it he called me and told me that with the Clutch must have 1500 or 2000 springs on the pads. It would not start to move until around 4500 rpms. So he put the Clutch I had on and it brought the starting off rpms to 3000-3500 rpms much better. So I will get softer springs because the Performance Clutch has pads that are about 1" longer than the OEM. More material grabbing the BELL, less slippish.
My brother-in law and I left Thursday morning the 16th of this month at 6:00am for Milltown Wisconsin to pick up the trike. It is 411 miles from us and we got there in record time. This time we took 90/94 then in Eue-Claire it Splits 94 west to St. Paul Minnesota and 53 up north and we took 53 got off highway 8 to 35 and we arrived at 12:45pm. Jim introduced us to his wife who was working on a Float for some festival they were having. The Float was really nice lots of flowers and his wife was putting some flowers on the side of the float.
When we arrived Jim had my Trike outside and had about 4-5 scoots in there that he was working on that needed a little TLC. He also had some scoots still in the crates.
We threw the sh!t for a bit and then we went outside to my trike. He started it up to show me how it starts up and how it runs and said try it out.
I asked where should I take it on 35 or on main street which is where his place is. He told me to cross go straight across the street and go up the side street to the end of the street which then curves and connects to 35. Well I pull up to the street and here is this COP across the street on another little side street just watching me. I am thinking this guy is waiting for me to crank on it and will pull my ass over(HEHE). I crossed the street onto the side street and went easy on the throttle and it picked up strong I opened it up a little more and I was already at 40mph with hardly any throttle. I made a U job up ahead and came back with a sh!t ass grin on my face. I noticed right away that the sucker pulled really good and has lots of power.
When I pulled back onto Jims place the Cop is there parked beside Jims Garage Door shooting the sh!t with his wife and jim. I pulled up right next to him and told him I thought he was laying low for me(HEHE). Since the town is so small everyone knows everyone and he New Way before that Jim was working on my Trike and we were picking it up he told me it sounded really good and it was a nice looking trike very nice guy, we shot the sh!t for a bit and he left.
After he left I told jim to bring the Trike around on the street and drive it up onto the Trailer. Got it buttoned up on the trailer and since the skys were dark looked like rain we put the cover on it. I did not bring any bungee cords just Duck Tape but we needed them and jim did not have any. So we bull sh!tted some more and jim said I may want to get a 9amp battery due to the compression on the motor for more cranking power to the starter. So I asked if he had any that would fit and he had 7amp and 9am Allstate Batteries. He grabbed a 7amp and a 9amp to compare the size and the 9amp is only like 1/2 inch taller than the 7amp so I told him to add the 9amp to my bill and brought back a 9amp. Cannot go wrong getting the new and stronger battery. I still have the orginal 7amp battery that came with the Trike and I bought the Trike back in March of 2009.
Said our goodbyes thanked Jim and we stopped at the Hardware store just down the street from him to pick up some bungee cords. Strapped the cover on the Trike and filled up with gas next door and headed back on 35. Well the cover was flapping all over the place so we pulled off in the next little town and DUCK TAPED the sucker down(HEHE) and that did the trick.
We drove back to TOMAH a very nice town which is about 175 miles from Milltown and got a couple of rooms and then we went for supper it was 6:00pm. I ordered a 20oz Porterhouse with onions and mushrooms, backed potatoe and salad and had a couple of heinkens. Came back to the hotel and sat outside for a bit watching all the truckers and people, went to bed got up at 4:00am we went for breakfast and back on the road and pulled up in front of my house at 9:00am.
We Unloaded the trike, dropped off the trailer and came back had a cup of coffe then went back in the garage and I put on the windshield and took it around the neighbrhood for a test drive. Came back tighten up some rattles and took a longer ride on the main streets. Found that it will now run 40mph at 5000 rpms and 50mph at just about 5500-5800. Now before it used to run 40mph at 6000rpms and 50 at 6800-6900rpms. I have to tell you it is running really good and I am glad I got the 16/37 gears
Today Saturday I took it out for a 20mile ride and opened it up just a little more. On a long flat stretch it was doing 50mph and the rpms dropped to 5500 and held there(man that is sweet compare to before). So I opened the throttle just a little more and I brought it up to 55mph with no problems and had a hell of a lot Left on the Throttle. I will bet this sucker will do 65 with no problems. I never got it to 7000 rpms only brought it up to around 6800 rpms. I love the taller gears and my goal was 55-60 with some throttle left and I already know 55 -60 is easy with a lot of throttle left so I have no doubts that this puppy will reach 65 or better with no problems. I am no where near the Powerband yet which is 7500 although I do not know what rpms it is capable with 182ccs.
The Trike is running awesome starts right up on the first push of the start button NO CHOKE. Today I went to change the gear oil and to do that you have to take the Sprocket off. The fill hole is behind the Drive Sprocket, will I couldn't take the sprocket off because the Chain was to tight . So I had to take the Fenders off to loosen the Axle Brackets to give the chain some slack. Just so people know A tight chain will cause taking off to be sluggish loosen the chain will improve the take off.
I changed the gear oil 70w-90 Syn and I filled the differential with Syn Grease and then buttoned it up and went for a ride. I brought it up to 60mph and it was running at 6800 rpms and I have a lot of throttle left . I ran it at that speed for a couple of minutes and settled it back down to 50mph at around 5500-5800rpms. The motor is very strong and goes up hills like nothing. Today I changed the crankcase oil. I am breaking it in not to easy but not to hard. Right now I have only 280KM with the BBK so I will put on some more miles before I open the throttle all the way and find out what it will do and what the rpms are. If they are to high I will put in heavier weights to bring the rpms down.
